Since we are stuck without any games to discus (darn off season) I was wondering what players (past or present) everyone believes best exemplifies the qualities of the UConn huskies. I keep hearing Kelly Being brought up and she is a great choice! I know we have had some great players but I may go a bit outside the box for one of my picks

Marci Czel is high on my list. She could have played regularly in division two (I hear she was even recruited by some) yet chose to come as a walk on to uconn. She never complained worked out without any real chance to play. The girl wanted to win. She did not need the accolades or the attention that she may have got. A national championship was the goal. To me (as a non-local fan who could have chosen any team to follow) find so cool about the team. If your goal is to set records and lead the nation is scoring you go elsewhere. If you want to start games right away and lead your team in court time you go elsewhere. This team is for people who want national championships, to be part of a winner. We recruit team players and my favorite players in any sport are team players first.

Jamelle Elliot, Jenn Rizzotti, Carla Berube, Swin Cash, Tamika Williams, Maria Conlon, Barb Turner. Ketia Swanier, Maya Moore.

Hard to leave out the author of the book of the same name - Mel.
Sue, and NeNe, and, and, and.
I agree that some of my favorites are the bench players who give their all in practice and the limited minutes they get -the Valleys, Gardler, Buck, etc.

I'm a huge KML fan. She has worked so so hard to improve, and she was already off the charts.

I think a good example of all heart huskie is Heather Buck. Not to take anything away from all the players mentioned, and probably a few others, but, here was a girl who stuck it out for 5 years, with a big smile on her face, through all the hopes, disappointments, comentary, wishes and support of the fans, and she never wavered from being true to the team and the school. One of my most cherished memories, will be the championship game this year, and her getting in and scoring. The look on her face and her teammates was priceless! Her personality was a good fit,and she never complained or pouted. She was happy to be part of something special, with special teammates and special moments.Whether guarding Griner,or cleaning up the final minute or two.she was a great example of what attitude someone playing for Geno and company should be!

Plus Stef playing through all that pain at the end of the season....pure Heart!
Plus, she worked her butt off, literally, in the off season so she could run the floor for 40 minutes a game. The Rock of UCONN and next year's Beast of the East, oops, AAC.

Yes to all of the above. also glad someone got my reference to Mel's book. I was so exited when I got her book on amazon last year and it came signed, a great surprise for me!

Stacey Marron has to be right in there with Marci.

You know, it is much harder to think of players who did NOT exemplify the Husky Heart.(No, please, lets not have any nominations. The point is that they have been few and far between, which is a great tribute to Geno and Chris and all of the assistants.)

The thrill of Stewie finding her true self at the end of the season...what a great great story!! Rare...and beautiful...

We have a winner for obscure musical reference of the day!

Well, Mel Thomas wrote the book, literally!
