Hawkins Starting

It's almost like Bouk left college a year too soon....

I disagree. Physical ability and talent aren't the problem and that's what you're trying to improve when staying in school. While Bouk's career so far has definitely been a disappointment, I've always felt that by young adulthood, people are who they are personality-wise for the most part.

Not saying that we can't mature and make better decisions as we get older but that usually happens over many years/decades. Clearly, Bouk has some serious knucklehead tendencies. Do you really believe Hurley was going to root those out in one more year?

No actually, but I wouldn't mind him having had that chance, because we know how things worked out for him without it.

At the time, the discussion was whether or not he was "ready to go to the NBA". As you point out he was physically, but wasn't ready emotionally. I don't know that that extra year would've changed anything. But, like all of us, I'm rooting for Bouk to figure it out.

He has all the parts to be an All-Star. He can hit 3s from anywhere, contested or not, his mid range game is solid, moves very well without the ball and plays solid defense. He’s only going to get better. So happy for Hawk!

To be fair, Hawkins just had a much more translatable skillset. Mental issues aside
I thought Bouknight would be a walking bucket in the NBA with his breakdown and finishing ability. I didn't factor in how tiny he would look in the NBA, how he wasn't all that good an outside shooter at UConn, and his mental state. I still think most of his problems are between the ears because even though his body isn't ideal for the league he has the explosive athleticism and scoring ability.

Hawk looked good. In my opinion, he passed the ball a little too much when he could have taken the shot but then again he is a rookie. He seemed comfortable with his teammates.

.-.
Dan Hurley knew what he had in Bouk when he recruited him yet he did very little to help Bouk keep on the straight and narrow during his stay in Storrs and then laughed off the incredibly immature and ridiculous display Bouk and his cohort performed at the game in Gampel two seasons ago. He knew at that time of the Gampel fiasco what kind of personal issues Bouk faced in S Carolina and N Carolina with the law. My best friend that was a huge Dan Hurley fan lost all respect for him after that Gampel incident for his post game reactions and actions. We watched it from our seats and spoke with CV (also visiting Gampel that afternoon) after the game - all CV could do is shake his head and said - that's Bouk.
Bouk could stay at Storrs for 6 years and he wouldn't change because nobody on the staff or the ADept was openly concerned - he's a step away from disaster.
Someday all the stories will come out...................
Bouk didn't need college basketball - he needed a lifestyle and common-sense mentor. I hope he decides to take corrective

You don’t think your pal was a bit overreacted? How was Dan Hurley’s response any different from CV’s? In your own words, Dan Hurley is hired as BB coach, not as Life style and common sense mentor. Let’s be frank here, head doctor. Not privy to the stories you mentioned, but to claim that Dan Hurley did not help at all is hard to believe to many of us for Hurley we know.

Zion looks like he is being really inconvenienced by having to play in this game. Don’t know if it’s him being tired with getting hacked but his energy and body language is brutal.

Hawk otoh looks great other than his shot being somewhat off.

It’s tiring watching him face up and go head down bull to the rim every possession…NOP ball movement is awful

Hawkins is making the right basketball plays but his shot is way off. He's wide open on all these threes and they're not even close.

Zion looks awful.

Hawk has gotten taken on D a couple of times and 1-8 from 3

Entire Pelicans team mostly looks disinterested, no resistance to these drives at the rim. Only 3 games played and one of Ingram/Zion is already out, neither of those dudes can stay healthy.

This is some of the worst NBA basketball I've ever seen. Pelicans are 1-22 on threes and none of the shots are even close. When they're not bricking threes they're turning it over and playing matador defense.

The shot will fall--NBA is a huge transition for even the best shooters.

The rebounding and assists have me more excited than anything. Means he's understanding the pace of the game.
I thought he looked really good in the first half. He was active defensively too.

I’m happy they’re giving him the chance so quickly. It definitely shows they believe in him and are ready to give him an extended look.

And I’ll put emphasis on “extended.” This isn’t the Prem or some other high level European soccer league, where there are so few games and so many good players competing for so few minutes that 1-2 bad games when given an opportunity is enough to tank your long-term standing in the manager’s eyes.

He’s got 82 games; they’re not all going to be tremendous, or even good (as I’d characterize his last one). Especially when playing on a team that looks like it has taken a step or two back so far. I’m elated to see he’s already got the backing of the Pels’ staff, and I look forward to seeing him being a key piece of righting that ship.

Agreed, he's doing good things out there but he has to seize this opportunity to make open shots. When all those other rotation guys come back the coaches need to know he can be relied upon to make his open looks off the bench. 2-12 is rough.

Hell of a turnaround, Hawk still struggling with his shot tho

He is, the majority of these shots are in the flow of the offense he's just not out there gunning
Once you’re 3-17, I don’t care if they’re guarding you from mars, stop shooting.
