Harvard upsets #14 Cal

I never would have guessed this, and it probably was on free video. Head bang

Yes, it was. But I was busy watching other games and only caught the last 1:30.

"We watched UConn and they didn't do as good of a job on her as we did."

...considering Harvard's strategy was to foul Anigwe and allow the free throw line to "guard her". I would say going 6-14 (42.8%)...it worked.

Cal had played a mediocre schedule, struggling in several games, leading up to the UConn game. While the Harvard win is surprising, it’s not completely unexpected in light of Cal’s struggles with Houston, Pacific, Tulane & St Marys.

Anigwe is not a particularly good FT shooter to start (58%) although 6-14 is bad even for her. But 3 for 11 from the floor is awful against a small team when she normally shoots better than 50% from the field.

In addition, the 85 points that Cal gave up to Harvard are the most they’ve given up all season, as well as the second most points Harvard has scored. Hard to win when you don’t play defense.

I guess Cal is now a 3 pt. shooting team. 10 vs UConn and 11 vs Harvard. Freshman McKenzie Forbes was 6 for 8 from downtown vs Harvard and barely played vs Uconn.

You can see in that highlight reel that Harvard was really bombing away from distance. The 3-point shot gives a lot of underdogs a puncher's chance, and Harvard shot 13 of 24 from the arc. Gottlieb said in the postgame that the problem wasn't so much their offense, since they scored above their average; it was their defense.

It doesn’t look like California made a highlights package, but Harvard did.

It sounds as if the Cal highlights would have been: (1) the few free throws they made or (2) the few shots that Harvard missed.

I do believe there are a half dozen losses or more waiting for Cal once they start conference play. I would expect the Golden Bears to make it to the Big Dance, but if the losses mount in the Pac12, they could end up in the WNIT.

Yeah , they might not get to meet UConn again in the tournament as their coach had hoped.
