should they be doing a little better?

why are they not getting quality recruits?

are the a solid "mid-major" or would mid majors pounce them (atleast this season)

Hartford lost two players (their best post player) to ACL injuries right before the season began.

They are on NESN tomorrow, against Quinnipiac. Thought I might check it out.

3 of the B1G / ACC games, including ND's, are also on over the next couple days (and one more on tape).

Ed probably gets his facts from the fact that folks in the media think a men's game doesn't need the descriptor and a women's game does.

Which is a good thing. When I search DirecTV, I put in "Women's College Basketball" and out comes the list. I think only once it was actually a men's game; a few times on supposed replays it wasn't at all, and a couple times when an earlier contest ran late they "skipped it" (think they would just skip a men's game?). But on the whole, excellent. I check every Monday for the weekdays and every Thursday for the weekend's slate.

Yes, exactly. It (TV Guide) just said Hartford v. Quinnipiac. Women's basketball games are
typically identified as such.

Hope Jen's kids can get it together.

With a loss to Quinnipiac they are now 1-7. You don't win a lot of games when you average under 50 PPG and shoot 33% from the floor and have twice as many turnovers as assists.

The big problem with Hartford is that they are integrating four freshmen into major roles and the upper class-men (Bepko, Bultron) aren't playing well. Rizzotti has shown that she will pull her historically best players and put them on the bench if they are not playing to her standards, as she did with Doherty (sp) last year. Once her freshmen acclimate they will begin winning again, especially in an even weaker than before America East Conference.

A larger area of concern is Hartford's offense has never been overly impressive. Only twice in the past ten years have they averaged pver 60 PPG. The two years they did, it was through strong post play. Hartford's guards have always been quick and able to get to the rim, but rarely good shooters. Hartford actually reminds me of Rutgers. They will play great defense, just don't expect a polished offense.

Very few mid-major teams consistently, year in and year out, have really strong teams. Marist, Green Bay, Gonzaga...a couple more. The others will be mostly up, but have some down years too.

This is a Hartford down year.

I know a lot of Boneyarders see Jen as Geno's successor, but the nature of her current post makes that a hard sell in the absence of a truly impressive uptick in the U of H performance over the next several years. Shea looks to me to be the successor at this point.

On one of the "inside" shows Marissa almost seemed the dominant voice.
A dark horse at least.

Jen has yet to prove she can recruit significant talent. That is a major blockage to her following Geno.
exactly why I think she won't get the job and shea will when geno retires. shea is on the recruiting trail getting the best players in the country.

the vols took the same route and pats longtime assistant got the job.

It is a catch 22, because the U of Hartford just will not draw that talent no matter how good a coach or a "seller/closer" Jen is.

So the Huskies hire a mid major coach after geno leaves with no track record against top teams who has limited recruiting success.

Or they hire a coach that has been recruiting the top talent in the nation and coaching against the best teams in the country on a national stage. You know, kind of like the men's team hiring kevin ollie.

Which one do you think they pick?

Are you askin' me a question? You talkin' to me? As I said in an earlier post, maybe not this directly, it would be a big gamble for an AD to go for a Jen Rizzoti hire at UConn. I was responding to IceBruin's talk re demonstrating recruiting ability and how it cannot happen at U of H in this day and age.

The same was said of UCONN when Geno arrived. I do not expect her to compete for top 10 talent or even top 25 but I do believe she can recruit significantly better talent to Hartford and isn't achieving that even regionally.

She is an awesome person but I do not think she is the future at UCONN until she has broader experience with big time recruits. She has stayed at UH largely for her great family values and I appreciate that but it has limited her development.

"The same was said of UConn...." I was waiting for that and wondered why it took so long! UConn was a big, true university with a central campus - it looked the part. Last spring one of the commentators said in conversations with Rick Patino (I believe) he called UConn a "sleeping giant." U of H not so much, but I don't disagree with your central premise: she can do better.

I love Jen, once a Husky, always a Husky, but I don't think she should go from Hartford to UCONN when Geno retires. She needs to go to a BCS type school and prove herself there first. When her teams are 'mid-major' good, I don't like the way they play. The offense never flows and they seem to be one of those gritty, grind it out type teams. I don't think she is a good fit. My first choice is Walz.
