Hard to believe,I know,but NCAA penalizes Baylor less than UConn even though BU's offenses were wors

Reading what Baylor was found to have done, and match up with UConn, Baylor's offenses were worse. To compound things, Baylor's men's basketball was on freaking probation when some offenses occurred.

UConn hit with failure to monitor;
Baylor hit with failure to monitor.

JC suspended for 3 conference games;
Baylor's hc 2 conference games.

UConn one scholarship reduction for 3 years;
Baylor for 2 years.

Show cause on UConn ass't for 2 years;
Show cause for Baylor ass't for one year.

Reduction of recruiting eval days from 130 to 90 for UConn for 3 years;
Reduction of recruiting eval days from 130 to 115 for Baylor for 1 year.

And on and on.

Remember, UConn had never received a notice of major violations prior to this one. They were clean.

I guess probation means nothing. Then again, just imagine if UConn happened to be on probation when its sanctions came down...I bet a free night with Mark Emmerts hag wife that the NCAA would all of a sudden start to decide that violating probation is a big deal.

Wasn't their an agent involved in the Miles fiasco? Our situation seemed a little more in depth than just sending some extra texts/phone calls.

Nochimson being an agent wasn't the issue, I believe. It's not illegal for coaches to talk to agents, it happens all the time when coaches are trying to get a player to sign with an agent after he leaves.

The problem was that Nochimson had been a manager at UConn in the late 90's, so he is considered to be a "booster".

It's still ridiculous.

Yeah - what was the ostensible nature of our own "failure to monitor / create a lack of compliance" according to the NCAA? Was it texts/calls to Nate Miles, or the fact that Nochimson - as school proxy - was making overtures which were laid at the door of the athletic dept?

I guess if you win a national championship like Baylor it excuses everything. Oops, well... UCONN did win the Men's NC last year but according to the NCAA they have to stick it to someone. Might as well be Calhoun. After all he has a lousy graduation rate. Oh yeah, that's because he sends player after player to the NBA.

There are differences between the two. UConn had a booster involved with a recruit. Baylor was under probation and had a coach try to obstruct an NCAA investigation by getting AAU coaches to lie about their relationship. Still, one could argue the latter two are worse.
