\Back when mom was in charge of Thanksgiving dinner, in addition to a very large turkey, there was also a ham and a lasagna. Of course mom was usually feeding 20+ people. We have a much smaller crowd, and a nice sized turkey is more than enough.
No other entree but the traditional bird. But by the time dinner rolls around I'm so full I just peck at dinner. But I try to eat the healthy stuff, so there is that.
Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all. And a thank you. I enjoy BY, because I get a lot of info that is unavailable elsewhere.
All I want this season is that we win the last game we play. (I must say, I missed the hats, the tee shirts, and the parade last year. ) I know, I know, I am spoiled. It is what it is.
ROCK: I'm guessing the emPHAsis is on "try" ? Especially given the roll of the eyes and grin. ?? Not a day for just pecking, Rock.
We will have 2 excellent choices:
1. Oven Turkey
2. Smoked Turkey
Happy T Day everyone
Si signore\
\DUDE: kinda sounds like a wonderfully festive Italian approach to Turkey Day. Corretta??
]I find it funny that in England they of course don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but the do have a Black Friday. I guess commercialism trumps community and family every time.
My family is southern based and fried chicken, mac and cheese and ham were alternatives. Occasionally baked salmon as well.
Hickory smoked. I smoked my turkey for a number of years--not recently. Slow smoking, not injected smoke flavor, gives a nice moist inner and brown hickory flavor.SCUD: You guys don't happen to smoke your own, do you? Back in the Appalachians, this is a great time of year for smoked meats of all sorts.
With this tiny dip in NC's --the Uconn less than faithful--may turn out in real numbers for a team that exceeded early expectations for them. Who'da thunk Walker would glow so early, or Danger would blossom so well (after last fall)--4 count em-4 unbelievable kids--plus 3Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all. And a thank you. What alternatives to turkey will any of you feature tomorrow?
We mostly reserved black eyed peas and hogshead for New Years. No wine, but corn bread, greens (cooked for 4 hours with ham hocks or neck bones, not that salt pork nonsense), maybe cabbage, yams AND sweet potato pie (What the heck is pumpkin pie?), white cake, bread pudding and (by my pleadings) coconut cake. We were North Carolinians, so red turnips. Eat, watch football, nap, wake up, repeat.]
/Real Southern usually comes with Black eyed peas/ corn bread/cornpone --some greens,
and a taste of the home made--or southern wine, white turnips not those rude baggers- It's almost religious.
Same. For us it was Spaghetti with meatballs, sausage and bracioli. Plus turkey and all the traditional sides.Back when mom was in charge of Thanksgiving dinner, in addition to a very large turkey, there was also a ham and a lasagna.
