Saw it and was like maybe there's another guy with that last name. Certainly it can't be our guy.... Nope

Curious?
When they say $20MM guaranteed from his deal in 2022, does that mean he has that sitting in his bank account or are there thresholds that need to be met to get that money? I never understood the "guaranteed" part? Thanks in advance.

Annual salary in the NFL is not guaranteed. If you’re cut you don’t get it. The Guaranteed money is the signing bonus. For cap purposes the bonus is spread out over the length of the contract, but if you cut the player you duck their salary while taking a cap hit for the remaining pro-rated cost of the bonus (even though the player already got paid).

In this case the $20 million is his, plus last two years salary. The salary for the next year is lost. That’s the cap savings for the Jags

He got $20M guaranteed plus ~$7M in non-guaranteed salary.

Not a bad golden parachute for someone in their 20's.

When is the salary obligated to the player, opening day? If you get cut during the season, do you lose the rest?
