Hall Of Famer Ray Allen Takes Slight Shot At Rick Pitino On Why He Chose Connecticut

Yup. Not sure why that article was just published yesterday.
Somebody with connections wants to instigate tension between UConn and St. Johns. This is a continuation of the NY Post articles last season probably. You want to foster a rivalry. Get fans angry with another teams program.

Anyone know if Pitino has changed the way he approaches recruits, or if it's the same old story with him? Coaches can certainly learn and change over time - even in Hurley's short time at UConn, the offense, with Coach Luke, has really changed in the short time Hurley's been at the helm. Obviously he saw an issue he wanted addressed, and went out and assembled the staff to help achieve it.

I just wonder if Pitino has learned anything over his long career...

Nothing new there but it’s still fun to hear it again. My issue is with the interviewer. Ray is giving his impressions of being recruited by the two coaches. Is it your place to add to what Ray said? Im talking about “ Calhoun cooking the food”. Ray would have said that if that’s what he wanted to say. Ask Ray a follow up question if you’d want to but don’t add to his commentary.

Does anyone remember Calhoun's comment about slick Rick and Calimari? Something to the effect of one knows they're full of ish, the other believes their own ish.

He has had to. Getting banned going to Europe, coaching Iona, and now St John’s has humbled him recruiting wise, he has become disconnected in that kids in HS know little about who he was. Short attention spans. I’m sure he is same old Rick in every other aspect.

Great Ray Allen video!!!

The 1:55 mark........our old rival from the Syracuse, John Wallace :D, nearly being posterized.

Totally forgot he played further north after being drafted by the Knicks.

He was so much better than most people realize. He played his best years out of the spotlight.
I think some people forget how athletic he was because they think of him draining threes with the Celtics and Heat when he was older but Hall of Famer and top 50 all-time. I think he's always gotten his due.

Nah. Most people don’t remember him dunking on people. He also had stints in Seattle as the pg. As he lost a step, he wasn’t able to play point anymore. He gets his due because of the 3’s. He was much more.

Can’t blame them cause it gets clicks which is obviously how they’re paid. But a good example of where sports journalism has turned more TMZ vs real new reporting.

Story been told 100x. (Not a shot at the OP here, just nothing really new)

Is that from about 30 years ago? I'm still laughing why that article in the OP was just written.
No idea why the article is getting additional play. You might as well mention the article where Ray was angry at UConn for his treatment during his deposition and he said UConn was treating Ollie poorly and UConn should just pay Ollie to end the embarrassment that the arbitration was causing the school.

Sophomore Ray took it to the hole a lot, was fun to watch his athletic game. Junior Ray took 3s all day and night. I guess when you are that good, then that becomes the plan. And that plan worked out pretty darn well.

Ah the old days of video tapes where you had to turn the ‘tracking’ to make those disruption lines at the top of the screen hopefully go away. Kids will never know the pain of not being able to watch a clean video at all times.

I probably told this story before but I worked at Ray’s Slamma Jamma overnight basketball camp over the summer a couple of years. One time as the head counselor was talking to the kids on the other side of the court, I was standing about 5 feet behind Ray with the other camp counselors as he took shot after shot from out of bounds in the corner. He effortlessly made about 15 in a row before he missed. I don’t remember much about that camp bc I was terribly hungover most days but it really gave perspective on how good NBA players are.
