Haley Troup verbals to So Carolina

I still think Mulkey will land Morris, which may send Ursin elsewhere. But she would be great at shooting guard, also. But I think she will want to be in a program where she has the ball in her hands a lot. And if Mortis comes to Baylor she will dominate the ball like Mulkey wants the PG to do.

Then perhaps you're right about SC and Ursin... at SC, our posts get a lot of touches but it's usually our SG that's dominating the ball (see Tiffany Mitchell).

She fills a need, but I'm not really feeling this sign. Dawn has her strengths, but developing young guards to this point hasn't been one. Honestly I want Dawn to do waaaay better.

Have to agree with this. I would have expected Dawn Staley, given her outstanding career as a point guard and playmaker, to have developed the PGs in her system much more than she has. Right now, SC wins a lot of games based on talent and the defensive schemes that have been designed by the coaches.

The next stage in Dawn's development as a coach is to mold a true playmaker, someone who can run a pick-and-roll or a pick-and-pop and be a floor general.

I had a good feeling Troup was going to commit all along. You could tell she really likes SC and wanted to be here. When you have a player that determined, passionate about her craft and wants to be there you can't turn them down... especially when she's actually a good baller.

I like Troup a lot, her game is very much the style of the Mabrey's from Notre Dame, gritty, hardnosed, do it all guards....

I'll have to follow her senior year now that you brought up the word "Mabrey." ;)
The Irish lost Mike ("Mabrey1) to graduation, along with two other grit specialists: Maddie Cable and Hannah Huffman. Huffman was actually a scorer when she came out of California, but she became, in effect, our utility player and her toughness and "glueness" will be missed. Cable was all bones, blood, guts and effort and she'll be missed tremendously. Plus, she and Mike never met a shot inside of 30 feet they didn't feel was makeable. Geez, we miss all three over on the ND board already..felt like they were at South Bend for 10 years and the three of them held the fort down last year during a very up, down and sideways campaign. Luckily, Marina Mabrey is coming back and Arkike Ogunbowale was developing her three-point stroke pretty well at the end of the year. Plus, we've got Jackie Young joining the 2s and 3s and hopefully Ali Patberg is recovering from her ACL.

If Troup can make any kind of contributions along those lines, hey...you'll do well with her.
