Last night, Griner surpassed Allyssa DeHaan to move to second on the NCAA blocked shots list. For that Stanford poster who said that BG blocks shots because "she is tall," please note that DeHaan was listed as 6-9 and BG passed her total midway through her junior year. Obviously, there is a lot more to blocking shots than being tall, although it certainly helps. Some of BG's blocks come when she is flying at a three point shooter, which takes incredible athleticism, timing and leaping ability.

Based on continuing to average 5 blocks a game, BG will move into the number 1 spot in the early portion of her senior year.

She is EDD's long lost sister.
If they are sisters, they apparently have a decidedly different mix of the DNA, since Griner made a commitment early on and stuck with it.

Maybe EDD was the lost one?

Enough already!

Actually, more than enough.

If you don't have something more constructive to do than pick on EDD -- a person you don't even know, and certainly don't understand -- go take a walk, or go to the gym, or read a book.

This constant anti-EDD stuff is embarrassing for this website. The Boneyard has a long tradition of treating student athletes with respect and appreciation. This tradition earns us respect. Your carping does just the opposite.

Can we stick to discussing Griner's blocks in this thread? There is a separate thread for people that want to take shots at Elena.

Brittney Griner is an amazing shot blocker. The scary part is that she appears to be getting better at it all the time.

I am still amazed at how few fouls she picks up blocking shots. And she always has big numbers against top team that are determined to challenge her in the paint. So many teams make the decision not to go inside and just shoot outside shots all game long. I wish there were a way to track the number of shots not attempted due to her presence.

I suspect that Stewart is going to have a lot of blocks in her days at UCONN based on the length and athleticism that I am reading that she has.

Griner had one of her shots blocked from behind against KU. She occasionally forgets to jump when she is shooting as she usually doesn't need to.

Just out of curiosity, who is all-time-leading shot blocker (for a short while longer)? Would that be Anne Donovan? How far does BG have to go to catch up with her? Maybe a Baylor game with Seton Hall should be scheduled for early next year around the time when it is likely to happen.

Donovan was partially pre-NCAA but had 801. Thompson is currently the NCAA leader. Griner will pass Thompson early next year and would need to 55 more games at her current season pace of 5.38 blocks a game to break Donovan's mark.

Unless she breaks Donovan's record she will not be viewed as the greatest shot block ever, in my opinion.

Louella Tomlinson, St. Mary's, 663 blocks. Ms Griner presently stands at 506.
