IIRC , Swin was the first American player of note (womens side) to go over there, and she had a really good experience, leading to more players taking notice. Also, I think Maya makes a bit more than Griner - she signed a multi-year deal last season for around $800K p.a. or so.

Still slightly less than the top names in Euroleague (CP3, DT) who still make at least a cool $Mil..!

Big advantage for Maya and her career's longevity is that the Chinese season is shorter so she has time to rest her body.
