Greatest Starting 5 of All Time

.-.
I feel people who don’t follow UConn would vote for us more if they replaced Marshall with Caron or Shabazz. Since Marshall isn’t well known among casual fans.

Toby Kimball would be the best power forward at UConn in any era.

He averaged 18 points and 17 rebound a game for three seasons in Storrs.

In the NBA he averaged 6 and 6 in 18 mpg in an 8 year career. There were only 10 NBA teams when he graduated. I believe he would have been much better in today's 30 team league.

Wow, closer than I'd expect UConn 56% Purdue 44%

.-.
The '71-72 UCLA team was a great national champ...maybe the best that's been.

Went 30-0 with an average winning margin of 30 points.

Bill Walton, Jamal Wilkes, Henry Bibby, Larry Farmer all averaged double digit points per game

And we wonder why UCONN isn't in the top historical program conversation.

It's because people are stupid.
We need a bunch of 35-win seasons in a row, and we need to put another Hall of Famer out there (Kemba & Andre both have a shot, but neither's as great as Ray was).

I think that just goes back to UConn not getting the respect and attention nationally as far as its success the last 25+ years. I honestly think people believe, mainly with 2011 and 2014, that we were just simply a cinderella with a bunch of nobody’s outside Kemba and Shabazz that got lucky. Thats not the case at all.

.-.
It’s because of the Purdue twitter account campaign that its remotely close.

Could be worse...

We should handle LSU easily before almost certainly losing to Duke.

Funny, I see that one as really close.

Probably would be A LOT closer if Martin didn’t break his leg in 2000.
The star of Cinncy’s two NC’s
Teams didn’t make their first team.
Paul Hogue who twice outplayed Jerry Lucas and that OSU team that also had Havlicek.
Also that Fla Team has no one close to the Big O ‘s talent level
We’re talking in the top ten all time greatest players .
He was shorter than LeBron
But height relative to the time was a lot closer. Probably a better ball handler and shooter but like him could do anything he wanted to do.
One of my early hero’s so Im a bit biased. Florida coaching was great and Noah was a load but Cinncy had some great athleticism up and down the lineup . A real game is a toss-up

As good as Noah was, Martin was amazing.

Nobody has mentioned this, but we are a #2 seed in this bracket. That's pretty solid "blue blood" status.

  • Looking at the top squads, Duke isn't that impressive really.
  • North Carolina, somebody has to stop Jordan and Worthy, but they've got only Hansbrough at center. There is no way that team beats Kansas or UCLA.
  • Kansas is pretty brutal up front with Chamberlain, Manning and Pierce, but the guards aren't that strong. Jo Jo White should be there in place of Hinrich or Mason.
  • Kentucky isn't that impressive at all.
  • UCLA...I am not sure how anyone handles Jabaar and Walton on the same team. That's a bit unfair since both are pure centers, then add Westbrook and Reggie Miller.
  • I'm not sure who they have for Georgetown, but assume Ewing, Mourning, Iverson, Williams and Floyd. Damn that's a great team.
  • Houston was robbed. Has a top 3 up there with anyone. Should be in the bracket.

I bet we lose. These things are a popularity contest and UConn is simply not popular, certainly not when going up against an LSU. People still equate football power with athletics power overall, it doesn't matter if they are voting for all time top 5 ping pong players.

Gotta think having Drummond somewhere on this squad would help pull some votes from younger bball fans who have no allegiance to UConn.
