Donyell's 42 against St. John's at MSG has one big similarity to Liam's 38 pt game last night-it helped UConn get their first road win against a team they never beat on the road. Remember playing at St. John's whether it was MSG or their Alumni Hall was a house of horrors for UConn. They were the last road team to win their first game at St. John's since the Big East started. This includes the technically neutral site BET game in 1992.

Yes... But, St. John's was 12-17 and we beat them three times that year. IDK, amazing performance, obviously by Donyell, but we were a significantly better team. I still have no idea how we won last night with most of our players playing like hot garbage.

2/16/11 - Kemba single-handedly destroys #9 Georgetown. The birth of Cardiac Kemba.

I always wondered whether they counted this assist to himself.

Kemba Walker in Maui, BET, and NCAAT had some SPECIAL performances.

29 vs Kentucky in Maui final
33 vs Cincy in RD32
36 vs SDSU in S16

Leading into Maui, he had a very nonchalant 42 against Vermont...then 31 v Wichita St, 30 v Michigan St, 29 in that Ky game. Crazy.

I agree, it’s in the discussion for sure.

To me, hostile crowd, and how it was at BOTH ends of the flour. When you compare it to others like Bouknight’s 40 and other performance’s in this discussion, it‘s the rebounding and Defense - the total package that make it top 3 for me.
And he basically had to bring the ball up all night because there was no other option besides Ball - and not turn it over. In just his second game back.

A game we needed to win, pretty much everyone else has a crap shooting night, Liam became the go-to guy and seemed to relish it. It's definitely top 5, and right now I can't think of 3 better, so I'm going to agree on top 3.

Probably the greatest regular season performance I've ever seen from a UConn player considering everything. It was against a ranked team that has owned us in a building we've never won at against a team who has won 10 straight Big East games. A game where we had no point guard and he needed to play point guard. A game where he didn't get help from anyone else. I haven't seen a UConn player will us to that kind of victory by himself in that level of game during the regular season and he did it in just his second game back after being out for 5 weeks due to injury.
Some of Kemba's early-season performances in the 2011 season are up there, but this one was probably among our biggest regular season performances given the stakes and the season teetering.

When Kemba had his "A" game, he was a force of nature.

I think it's another way we've been spoiled the past few years, but we haven't really needed an individual to absolutely blown up like McNeeley did last night. It's been 2 years of a roster grinding opponents and sucking the fight out of them.

AJ Price career continues to get underrated on here because he lost in the Final Four. He had 36/6/6 with 8 3s vs a top 10 Marquette team on the road, including one of the best UConn highlights ever when he dropped Jerel McNeal with an in & out dribble, pointed at him, then made the stepback jumper.

I grabbed this from the media guide. Just for "era" consideration, I eliminated any game pre-Calhoun.

That leaves 6 games of 40+ pts. Not sure how many 38-39 pt efforts there are since the list cutoff at 40....but safe to say, considering he's a freshman coming off a 5 week layoff? That's an all-time individual effort on a program with a long, long list of elite players.

Most Points in a Single Game:
51 Bill Corley vs. New Hampshire 1/10/68
50 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Maine 2/4/67
49 Art Quimby at Boston College 12/13/54
46 Art Quimby at Maine 2/12/55
43 Toby Kimball vs. Colgate 2/22/64
43 Art Quimby at New Hampshire 2/11/55
43 Al Weston at Boston University 2/7/73

42 Kemba Walker vs. Vermont 11/17/10
42 Cliff Robinson vs. Hartford 12/29/87
42 Tony Hanson at Vermont 2/19/77
42 Wes Bialosuknia vs. N. Hampshire 2/21/67

42 Donyell Marshall at St. John’s 1/15/94
42 Donyell Marshall vs. St. John’s 3/11/94
40 Ed Slomcenski vs. Maine 1/12/63
40 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Rhode Island 1/14/67
40 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Rutgers 2/23/67

I don't think that the 42 point games were even his best games. His 33 in the double OT game at BC included huge shots down the stretch to tie or give us the lead. 12 minutes 48 seconds here . . .

I’ve seem so many great performances
Through the years . I played it safe with. top 10 giving points because of the location and opponent. However out history is long and with so many insane performances
Just a few ;
I remember Toby Kimball getting 26 rebounds in an NCAA tournament game against a ranked team on their home floor keeping us in the game .
Ray vs eventual NC UCLA was insane
I only read about Art Quimby getting 40 rebounds ( that defies the imagination) in a game or scoring 49 points against Boston College .
Marcus Williams got 16 assists against ND
Donyell twice scored 42 against St John’s
Corlry and Wes got 51 and 50 against Yankee conference teams
I remember Tony Hansen single-handedly beating Syracuse to stop a muiti year home winning streak at the old Manly field house .Kemba had so many in 2010-11 it’s hard to pick . He put a team on his shoulders for a year .

1999 UConn @ Stanford. KEA goes 23/5/5.

Gotta remember they were ranked #1 but at the end of a brutal stretch in the schedule they had been @gtown, @#9 St. John’s, then hosted #16 Syracuse. Ended up getting blown out because Jake and Rip were both out with injuries. Then they have to travel a couple of days later clear across the country. Rip is still out Jake is coming off of his injury. They are playing the #4 team in the country in their house Maples is a small gym fans right on top of you. The place was going ape from the tip.

I know that some are of the opinion that the team has to win for the performance to be considered but I would put Tristan’s performance against Kansas at Phog Allen right up there. He went 31/6/2. Nobody else on the team had more than 10. His 6 boards only Cling had more.

There was no Steph (freshman Solo was starting in his place), Cam was hurt, don’t think cling was 100 %. We were endanger of getting blown out early in that game but his shooting and scoring kept

Considering he’s been out for a month and how he literally carried the team by himself, the location of the game and the opponent and the importance,- especially with us just falling out the top 25. I have to say it’s gotta be top 10 -probably higher. I just can’t recall right now. Was it betters than bouks 40 point performance vs Creighton? That’s last one that comes to mind- then of course carons second half performance against Maryland in elite 8 - but that was a loss. This one deff up there. Probably top 5. Also , he literally carried the team on his back. No one else did anything. There was no Robin to his Batman in this one —-not even close.

I think Hurley has been reluctant to give the alpha dog mantle to someone other than Alex but last night forces the issue. Last shot =Liam. Need a bucket=Liam. Offense screening for=Liam. Now Liam is skilled enough to give assists off of those situations but he has to have the ball in his hands…….a lot.

Donyell going 20-20 from the line and scoring 42 vs St John’s in MSG is hard to beat for me, especially since I was there. Ray Allen in the Elite 8 vs UCLA ranks high up there. Caron Butler vs Maryland in the tournament. But Liam’s game is high on the list.
This is the right answer. You can add Ricky Moore defensively in the 1999 Championship and Lyman DePriest shutting down Dana Barros in the 1988 NIT. Or Clingan against Illinois last year. Or Kemba's overall Big East Tournament 2011.
