I grabbed this from the media guide. Just for "era" consideration, I eliminated any game pre-Calhoun.
That leaves 6 games of 40+ pts. Not sure how many 38-39 pt efforts there are since the list cutoff at 40....but safe to say, considering he's a freshman coming off a 5 week layoff? That's an all-time individual effort on a program with a long, long list of elite players.
Most Points in a Single Game:
51 Bill Corley vs. New Hampshire 1/10/68
50 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Maine 2/4/67
49 Art Quimby at Boston College 12/13/54
46 Art Quimby at Maine 2/12/55
43 Toby Kimball vs. Colgate 2/22/64
43 Art Quimby at New Hampshire 2/11/55
43 Al Weston at Boston University 2/7/73
42 Kemba Walker vs. Vermont 11/17/10
42 Cliff Robinson vs. Hartford 12/29/87
42 Tony Hanson at Vermont 2/19/77
42 Wes Bialosuknia vs. N. Hampshire 2/21/67
42 Donyell Marshall at St. John’s 1/15/94
42 Donyell Marshall vs. St. John’s 3/11/94
40 Ed Slomcenski vs. Maine 1/12/63
40 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Rhode Island 1/14/67
40 Wes Bialosuknia vs. Rutgers 2/23/67
40 Amida Brimah vs. Coppin State 12/14/14
40 James Bouknight vs. Creighton (GP) 12/20/20
I might look less at "era" and more at qualify of the opponent. So let's include Art's 49 and Wes's 40. Similarly, let's forget about Amida's 40, and Kemba and Cliff's 42s.
That leaves us with Art @ BC (an NIT team coached by Bob Cousy), Donyell's two games vs Johnnies (not a good team in '94 but at least a major), Wes vs Rutty (won 3rd place NIT with Jimmy Valvano @PG), and Bouk vs Creighton (#13 in AP at that time). I'd probably put Liam's game last night ahead of both Donyell's games, and I'd probably put it ahead of Bouk's game as he scored big but did little else - and we lost.
So w/o knowing who else scored in upper 30s against a very good opponent and had an amazing all-around game, I'm going to put Liam's game as third best all-time.
