I'm always amazed at what a great deal the breakfast sandwiches are at both Misty Vale Deli and the Newtown General Store. At $2.99 for a delicious bacon, ham, or sausage, egg and cheese on a roll its got to be one of the best deals in the state. What else is out there that is a surprisingly good deal ?

My mom is spending the next few weeks at a short-term care facility in Wilton, so I’ve frequented the Village Market there more times this week than combined previously before.

Their groceries are expensive, but their deli sandwiches are surprisingly reasonable: $6.25 for my mom’s go-to dinner order.

Ranch House seems to be building a local culinary empire. Their hole-in-the-wall joint on Governor St in E. Hartford has good stuff on the low end of local prices. I pretty much get the BEC or the Chili Dog, depending on the time of day.

Cornerstone Deli in Hartford has great grinders and sandwiches with generous portions at reasonable prices. I get a full 8" chicken cutlet sub and a bag of chips for $11.

Also a big fan of the Riverton General Store in the northwest corner. great hot foods and sandwiches.

On the other side of the coin, The Warden dragged me to Julien's Farm Store in Granby one Sunday where we waited in line for 45 minutes to buy a $14 sausage, egg and cheese sandwich.

Wow, the power of a glowing write-up in Yankee Magazine!

Juliens is worth every penny. Their brisket breakfast sandwich on a biscuit is the best breakfast sandwich in the state.

Went to the Yale game on Saturday and our group ate at Te Amo after the game.

They have a 12-7 Happy Hour menu every day that’s substantial. Food isn’t fantastic, but hard to complain when you spend $8 for three massive pernil tacos.
