Would be a nice feel good story if it ends up happening this upcoming season.

Kffl.com had this piece today:

Jaguars | Dwayne Gratz could start

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Dwayne Gratz could win one of the starting cornerback jobs this season. Defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker said Gratz reminds him of San Francisco 49ers CB Carlos Rogers.

As soon as the draft pick was announced ESPN commentators said the Jags were specifically looking for a CB with the potential to start opening day.

It's not usual for a third round pick to make the starting line up.

It is absolutely a possibility. The Jags were in the bottom 1/3 of the NFL in passing defense and ranked 27th (yards) and 29 (points) in 2012 total defense. Once they get to fall camp, draft position is thrown out the window.

Gratz was the top defensive player drafted by the Jags. Their first two picks were offensive players. They expect him to make a difference.

That doesn't mean anything. I'm willing to be that Gratz wasn't the highest rated defender on the draft board and he slipped to the 3rd round. What if 5 offensive position players were picked before him and Gratz went in the sixth? Is a 6th round pick supposed to make a difference because he was the first on that side of the ball?

They expect him to contribute becuse he was a third rounder, not because he was the team's first defensive selection.
