I am really shocked that Grantland would have Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio write for them. The guy is crazy Kentucky blogger, not a reputable journalist. And he has a complete factual error in the first sentence of the article.

These are supposed to be fan pieces. I don't think they're going for hard-hitting sports journalism here.

"Our Homerism Week reaches a fever pitch as Matt Jones from Kentucky Sports Radio checks in to tell us why Kentucky's time is now"

They aren't exactly trying to hide that these are opinion pieces written by people with extreme bias.

Yea I didn't even see that header so you guys are right. Matt Jones is still almost on a troll-level but yea, when they have the word homerism in the byline, I should have known what to expect.

He should have googled that Lewis F Powell quote and found out that it was incorrectly attributed instead of using it as his opener

Yeah, it's Stewart, not Powell, it's obscenity not pornography, and it's you know it when you see it. Try Googling, Matt.

Personally, I know a P.O.S. story when I see one.

Half of his argument for why Kentucky will win the title is because the fans deserve it? I realize it is a homer piece, but c'mon, really? That's the best you have?

It's no secret some fanbases have developed a sense of entitlement to the top of the basketball mountain, to the point of suffering mass delusion.

"By any objective standard, John Calipari is one of the five best coaches in college basketball."

BAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAHAHHAHAAAA
Did anyone challenge him on this statement?

Any objective standard - let's see who is clearly above Calipari:

K
JC
Roy Williams
I think those three are clearly above Calipari given their multiple National Championships.

Then I think you can add in the next group:

Izzo
Self
JB
and you can even throw Calipari in there. All have more than 1 Final Four appearance. But the thing that would set them apart would be National Championships. Well, the top three have won one. Calipari hasn't. So, objectively, I think you can easily make an argument that he is 7th at best.

Um how about by National Championship totals? Unless my math is wrong, the Squid is tied with whole lot of people...myself included.

He knows that he is as good as or better than others in the coaching elite and that his résumé should certainly be considered greater than that of lesser coaches with national titles, like Bill Self, Billy Donovan...
Lesser coaches? Really?

I love the three reasons why Kentucky is due"

1) Calipari hasn't won it before "so he's due". By that measure, every school in the country should be lining up at my door because I've never won one either.

2) "Talent wins." True enough, although there are some guys who can't win even with talent. Calipari is their poster child.

3) "The fans deserve it." Um, that's kind of not how it works. That's why coaches and players matter.

oh yeah and 4) "I just know it."

lol - anyone else think this guy is out of his NCAA pool by the close of the first weekend?

If I recall correctly Squid only has one final four. Also I'd add Brad Stevens to the list and have all of them above him.

Why UK WON'T win a NC.

Because there coach is a jerkoff who IMO isn't a good coach even though he has had some of the most talented teams the past few years. Maybe if he stressed free throws to his team things might be different....

I agree. After catching their act in Houston, the only thing UK fans deserve is the finger.
