While I haven't exactly been the biggest Giffey cheerleader on this board, you have to admire him sticking it out right now. Here's a guy who is thousands of miles from home who spent a LOT of time riding the pines, yet he's staying put and gutting it out with UConn even though one could arguably say there's nothing to play for but pride next year, in what is sure to be an ugly season.

I just wish it didn't take this for fans to appreciate him. He has not changed, fans have.

Let's just hope JC shows him a lot of love next season.

Dont be too sure that Giffey or any one else bolts out. I am waiting until the end of the semester to keep my guard down. Until then no one is penciled in for next season including the head coach...

I thought that Giffey and Wolf would have been the first ones out the door. After two years they can probably tell they dont have a real shot at the NBA. Their ceiling for potential is playing in a European professional league anyway. Im sure schools in Germany would love to have them on the team and they would be closer to home and about half way to a degree.

I think that Giffey came here with the intention of getting an education and playing basketball under a great coach. He'll have a real shot at playing Euro pro ball and after that's over he'll have a legitimate education to lean on. He wouldn't gain too much from bolting back to Europe at this point, IMO. He would be better off with 2 more years (hopefully) of Calhoun and top level U.S. college competition and of course a degree.

It would be hard to find another player who has been on the receiving end of Calhoun's wrath for minor mistakes the way the Giffey has been. He's hung in there and has always been ready to come in and try his best. I still think that he can be more than a role player if he could earn/get the playing time to allow him to relax and play more spontaneously. I hope he stays and gets that chance this year. The main thing to me is that he has hung in there and never complained (publicly, anyway), just worked hard. We shall see what we see, but one way to look at the current mess in a more positive way is that the players who want to put the keys in Jim Calhoun's hands are going to be here and have a chance to show their stuff.

These are the threads we should be having rather than talking about those who no longer want to be in Storrs.......good posy and I'll go to war with the kids who believe in JC and are willing to stay and fight...........

How can anyone not be a Giffey Fan? I mean that kid plays with heart, no attitude, and is a great defender. Given more playing time he would be an amazing player at UCONN. His ability to hit the three has not been shown this year do to poor leadership. I am sorry... Giffey is a baller from the first days he stepped foot on the campus with Orlander. They are real basketball players. No cockie attidutes, no all about me plays. I will go out on a limb and know people will have my behind for this.. but the players Jimmy recruited... .many of them are not "Team players" they are "all about me players". Slicing Dyson was all about me. He had the ball.. he had no shot but he was going to take it anyways because he was Dyson. Seven years ago... he recruited great team players... players like Okafor, Gordon, Anderson, and both Brown boys. But lately... please. Alex? Please. That boy took a step back because he felt entitled. How pathetic he was as a player. UCONN men should look towards the UCONN women as to how to play the game of basketball. As a team. Attitudes checked at the door.

You were doing real well until you came up with the "...look at the UConn women as to how to play..." always an awful comparison!!!

Went up to Campus to see some friends last weekend (I graduated last May). Ended up throwing a football with Giffey and Olander in Celeron. If basketball doesn't work out, Giffey can throw the football about 70 yards and it didn't even look like he was trying. He's a really nice kid and he seemed to really be enjoying the whole college life.

Jerome Dyson was a huge "ball hog " "Gunner" only trying to impress the NBA scouts. Didn't really work out for him cuz it took him to be undrafted and play in the D-League for 2 years before getting a 10 day with the Hornets.

First off, it's Olander, not Orlander. Secondly, does mentioning Olander and Giffey have anything to do with the fact that they're white? Seriously, how have they shown to not have cocky attitudes but everyone else on the team has? Also, what exactly is a "real basketball player"? Is Jeremy Lamb not a "real basketball player"? Is Shabazz Napier not a "real basketball player"? Is Roscoe Smith not a "real basketball player"?

Is Ryan Boatright an "all about me player"? Is Deandre Daniels an "all about me player"?
