1. Vanguard was completely outmatched physically. Plus, they were completely overwhelmed with the energy UCONN brought at the start of the game. 2. UCONN played a bunch of 1-2-2, often with Lou or Phessa out top. As long as they both are, it will be difficult for point guards to throw it over them. 3. Irwin was first off the bench. It was normal Kyla. I can't decide if she is looking at extensive minutes or if this is a temporary situation until ONO is ready. 4. Speaking of ONO, Vanguard had nobody that could match up to her length. She was active on the boards at both ends. 5. CW made the first basket of the year on a sweet, right-handed layup off the dribble. 6. Lou hinted at this this. MW played the high post on offense an extensive amount of time. She won't (at least not yet) make anybody forget about Gabby's passing skills. If she can hit that mid-range jumper, feed Phessa on the post and reverse the ball, a huge issue is addressed. 7. They started in a 3 quarter 1-2-2 press with Phessa the front person. They only did it about three times but Vanguard had no chance against it. 8. I am sure that Geno is frustrated by the lack of scoring at the end of the game by the subs. Bent and Irwin both missed layups. Touly got a bunch of touches but could not consistently take care of the ball. 9. Feel bad for Touly. She and Lexi were the last two in. With her revealing how much time she has to spend prior to practice just to be able to participate, playing time has to be testing her patience. Unfortunately, I did not see much that would indicate that she deserves more. 10. It never gets old, no matter the competition, watching this team put on an unselfish clinic like that they did in the first quarter. 11. It was great seeing Fudd, Jones, Boston and Bueckers behind the bench. They were emotionless (expected) but there, together nonetheless. 12. Coombs got extensive time. She is really quick, athletic and a good penetrator. I hope, above all the other girls, that Geno shows patience with her. I think, with time, she can help.
