Goodbye AAC. Hello, "American Conference."

Grit:

Frankly, their failure to also include "pluckiness" seems like a marketing blunder.

I will say the shortened conference motto "built to rise" seems pithier than their original "When you're at the bottom, the only direction you can go is up."

BC to the American - the double Eagle conference!! Actually, shouldn't this be the Owl conference given the 3 schools that have owl mascots? "We're the Owl conference - we eat almost anything and spit out the bones"...

Is this the first conference with its own mascot?!

If they paid $0.01 for the advice, they got duped. So they get a newish name and new mascot but didn't get a new logo, just the same A with the same crooked star??? Okay, sure...independent in football might not be ideal, but it's better than seeing what the AAC, AC, whatever that conference wants to call itself.

I always thought AAC was dumb because of ACC, so I'm glad they got rid of it. However, I hate to think what they paid in marketing fees to comes up with this when virtually nothing changed except for an Eagle mascot.

"But wait, he's not just any eagle, he's an eagle in a football uniform! See what we did there! That's a subliminal reminder that the American Athletic Conference is a football conference! And he's wearing, wait for it, the old logo! That shows continuity between the new and old names for the conference. But wait there's even more! He's not just a football uniform wearing eagle he's a football uniform wearing eagle that's moving!! That added dynamism shows that the American isn't content to be the absolute nadir of FBS football. Oh no! It is a conference on the move!

Now, if one of you dolts will just hand me my check. I can get out of here, hop in a shower and wash the horrid stank of your rancid conference off of me."

Howard Stern always talks about how his mother used to wash the "Grit" out of his underwear when he was a kid.

As Shakespeare once said:

Dung by any other name would smell as putrid.

I was actually fine with it until the eagle mascot. That's where they lost me.

Good for the AC. I give them credit for fighting on. I always thought Aresco did a great job given his situation. C-USA might be in better shape if it had a better strategy because its brand was always a pass-through entity but now it's at the bottom. The American does have the best record of "Rising" programs to the P suite so it has that going for it and will likely remain the top G conference in football.

Nice video
