Good line here:

He's irritated if he ever perceives the Huskies are being counted out as title contender or somehow short-changed in national prestige. But it also bugs him when people think UConn should just be expected to be in this position year after year, as if it's automatic and easy to stay great just because you've been great. In other words, Auriemma might just kind of thrive on being irritated. It's a motivation, a needle that keeps sticking at him from two different sides.

Very nice articles, as always, from Mechelle. Great insights that she pulls out about what it's like for Geno as his team goes for no. 8, and how if they do it everyone will expect that no. 9 and no. 10 are just a given. Only he and CD really know all the hard work it takes each year to get to the level to win on and get to the FFs even though a string of top teams are all giving you their best shot year after year.

"We won six championships in 10 years," Auriemma said of the stretch from 2000 to 2010, which technically encompasses 11 seasons. "I always thought during that run, 'You know, someday everybody's going to look back and go: I can't believe that that actually happened.''

"Because the more time passes and the more you see how many really good teams come up short, you start to realize how incredible that was and how hard it is to do."

Geno said this after being asked about Griner and Diggins combining for one National Championship and what it says about his program that his great players won six National Championships in 11 years.

Hard to write a good Geno story at this point, what with everything seemingly having been said already. Mechelle succeeded.

It's clear the kids want to win for him, and he wants a championship for them too, especially the outgoing seniors (and Stef and Bria, who have had to shoulder immense responsibility from the second they set foot on campus in the middle of a 90-game winning streak). Feels like a good vibe and mindset heading into tonight.
