Swofford is just being the usual slime ball he is while trying to put the lipstick on a pig. There isn't so much separation football wise between the ACC and the BE going forward and he is scared about that. That being said, BE needs an outspoken commissioner who is a slime ball and who can work in the shadows like Swofford. We need our own slime ball to pimp the conference every chance he/she has in the media.

This interview highlights Swofford's Big East derangement syndrome. He has always thought that if he could damage the Big East, it would automatically help him. What he should have recognized is that this is not a zero sum game between two players. A guy in his position should be looking for friends, not trying to piss people off.

Swofford screwed up big time when he raided the BE the second time. He thought the Big 12 was falling apart and it wasn't. Had he been patient and waited rather than going to the well for the second time both the BE and the ACC would be better off. He wasn't ahead of the curve as many said. He screwed up royally, IMO.

This is actually a great point. The "build a case for ND to join us" mentality has really hurt them in the end, in my opinion. They are much better being in a world with 6 power conferences than with 5, because with 5 they are always going to be the odd man out. TCU would have still left for the Big12, but I don't think that WVU would have left if Syracuse and especially Pitt stayed in the league.

Not only did he add little value to his conference and contract, but he helped support the opinion that his league is tobacco road - basketball centric, and that may ultimately be his undoing...

As I have always said, the smart move for Swofford was to approach the Big East a little over a year ago once it was clear that the Pac 12, with their lousy basketball, mediocre football and poor ratings, was getting a blockbuster deal. The market had changed, and he had a contract that was a major problem for him relative to the other majors. The smart move was to merge into the Big East, lock up the eastern seaboard, upgrade the league in football, and be THE premier hoops league. Then hold tight until the Big East/ACC could go to market, and get a blockbuster deal of their own.

Instead, he grabbed Pitt and Syracuse, which accomplished exactly nothing for the ACC, but made the Big 12 stronger such that there was a Big 4 instead of a Big 6. Now the ACC is the hunted.

I don't think Swofford had the backing.

In the perfect world he adds Rutgers and UConn to sew up NYC, Jersey, and New England. The ACC championship rotates between Charlotte and NYC and the ACC Championship rotates between Yankee Stadium and Charlotte. WVU and Lousiville were non-considerations from the word go.

Adding Nova, Georgetown , St John's and Notre Dame for Basketball looks like a another non-starter from them

Then there's the SEC attitude---the ACC is a slavish follower: Georgia, Florida and South Caorlina lord it over Clemson, USF, and Gerogia Tech--as did Miami back in its Big East days. The ACC simply accepts being second class
