I saw the 96 Gotti film last night and loved it, probably one of my favorites and the cast was amazing.

I've probably seen most of them, but curious to see others.

Here are a few of mine:

The God Father
Casino
Good Fellas
Gotti - 90's
Scarface
Miller's Crossing
State of Grace
Gloria - 80's

Good call on State of Grace.

It unfortunately came out at the same time as Goodfellas so it got buried at the box office. Really good movie about The Westies, some of the most violent gangsters NYC has ever seen. I remember reading TJ English's book The Westies as a teenager and being disturbed by what I was reading. Such a great cast with Ed Harris, Sean Penn, John C Reilly, Burgess Meredith, John Turturro, Robin Wright but Gary Oldman steals the show. Amazing performance by him.

Donnie Brasco, Road to Perdition, American Gangster, Gangs of New York, A Bronx Tale.

Some other ones that don't get enough attention- Eastern Promises (amazing movie) Kill the Irishman, The Drop, Layer Cake

It doesn't necessarily fit into the mob/organized crime description but City of God is an amazing movie about gangs in Rio de Janeiro.

State of Grace a classic. Robin Wright, Penn, Harris but yes, Gary Oldham at the height of his powers. They don’t make movies like that anymore.

Fantastic call on Eastern Promises and City of God.

City of Men, same director and similar premise as City of God, is also very good.

Just watched the Godfather a couple days ago for the first time. Almost finished watching the Godfather II, which I liked better than I. I think there is a Godfather III? I loved Scarface, but never heard of the others listed. Will have to look up Gotti as that sounds good. I was bored watching the Sapronos and never watched the whole series.

New series on Paramount+ called Mobland is one I have not looked in to.

I get it the topic was “movies only”………..

Never watched a mob movie. Do not like glorification of crime. No different than city street gangs.

I can agree that as a society, many people glorify violence in movies, even war movies.

Mob movies are part of our history, and even Westerns like Pale Rider are about mob like clans that ran the West, fictional but, interesting non the less

The mobster/crime genre is arguably the greatest genre in the history of cinema.

Now we just get vacant nonsensical John Wick type violent movies, super hero movies, and hit man movies.

It may not be in the spirit of the thread, but I love The Freshman.

Bruno Kirby passed too soon. I love that Brando did a caricature of himself. Penelope Ann Miller was sizzling, and Maximillian Schell was a perfect eccentric as the chef.
