Skylar?????? Didn't they have more success at Notre Dame this year without her?????If we had the opportunity of 1st choice of any one recruit in any future draft yr- it would have to be Durr. We have seen time and time again what a great Pt guard/ back court can do with even good relatively average players up front- Kemba, Skylar, Odyssey, Shabaz, .... I guess Lauren Cox and KLS would be my 2nd/3rd choices!

That's a little harsh- don't u think? The fact that N Dame was kicking our butts 90% of the time for 3 yrs means nothing. Her attitude and will to win probably more than her ability changed/transformed N Dame. We should be able to give credit when it's due. I prefer to try to be a little fair. So does that mean every person that hasn't won a NC by definition can't be a great player? Chiney, McBride, Lindsey Whelan? One player does not belong in that group. All the other guards have won a National Championship...
So - Skylar wasn't a great pt guard that helped beat us 90% of the games she played against us. You guys are tough.Skylar?????? Didn't they have more success at Notre Dame this year without her?????
ND beat us 7 of 8 at one point, but Skylar lost her first 3. I think her record was 7-4, which is not 90%, but still better than anyone else in the past 20 years. So - Skylar wasn't a great pt guard that helped beat us 90% of the games she played against us. You guys are tough.
I think they were a better team without Skylar because they were more balanced. I think Skylar all too often wanted to win close games in the closing minutes by herself and that wasn't always in the best interests of the team. She did help bring a certain mentality of toughness to the team that helped everyone but I really think that if you examined a lot of our losses in those three seasons of Notre Dame success, you'll find that we, more often that not, shot ourselves in the foot TO LOSE those games. The one game I remember over any other was that loss in three overtimes where we had the game in the bag with a nice lead in regulation and the first overtime but couldn't make foul shots. When you have a good foul shooting team that blows foul shots that would clinch the game, I don't think you necessarily credit the point guard of your opponents for the win. I also remember an unconscious three point basket by McBride that bounced off the rim about three feet in the air and came back down to send the game into overtime. I again concede that she helped build a toughness and a confidence that was key in keeping Notre Dame in games where we seemed to be ready to run off. I just think it was offset by her unwillingness to allow anyone but herself to be the hero of critical games. So - Skylar wasn't a great pt guard that helped beat us 90% of the games she played against us. I appreciate your response. The point guard is so highly scrutinized, because they are so involved in every possession. I really could not disagree with you more. Notre Dame during her Fresh/soph & Jr year not only looked like UConn running offense, their interior passing in the paint was extraordinary- much better than ours. It all began with SD taking everyone off the dribble and distributing. She wasn't a great shooter, really good and streaky at times. I never viewed her as selfish on the court. Penetrating and dishing underneath to Peters or Achonwa, or kicking out to Novasel, Mallory or McBride. They were the only team that could compete with us and/ or beat us. I was at those hm games & big east, and obviously saw the away games. I agree that everyone of those games we could have and/ or should have won. Which doesn't prove she wasn't great? And even if N Dame was better this year than SD's sr yr, that proves that she wasn't great? They had 4 starters return, 2 superstars , and Achonwa, and the best bench in the country return, and the best freshman Pt Guard and best freshman power Forward in Reymer come in. I never liked SD for a lot of reasons, but I think sometimes we can let our personal perception "skew" reality.I think they were a better team without Skylar because they were more balanced.
