Johnson may not start Wednesday but I’m thinking he will be and should be starting when he returns. His energy at the start of the Gonzaga game was outstanding. I think he has something in there that we haven’t seen yet.
 
Very late watching this game. Have to mention how much refs actually like Hurley and you can see it now that he’s calmed down.

We get an out of bounds call and he puts his arm around a ref and says he’s going to smile. They both have a laugh (do refs even usually let coaches touch them mid game like that?) and we instantly get a moving screen call afterwards.

Hurley seems like he has them wrapped around his finger when he’s nice to them.
 
Johnson will resume his spot as starter once he's game-ready. Until then-Reed starts and YS gets some PT for a breather/any foul trouble issues for Reed. AK/JS as small ball 5s if needed for short stretches. All about matchups

Ross’ d is way ahead of Mahaney’s, he should get the minutes.
 
Great win! It was nice to see Stew get some run and have some success. If Diarra could just score a little bit more he'd be very dangerous. Seven dimes you'll take all day long though. Nice minutes to hold the fort again for Singare and Liam forget about it. Looking forward to Xavier on Wednesday. There's a nice stretch here where the team should be able to stack some wins if we don't have a wtf.

Good point....but something was certainly not right with his 3 pt shot on Saturday. Probably was just a really uncharacteristically bad shooting night for him at MSG.

I honestly don’t know now if Hurley did all that in HI on purpose. Did he sense something about this team that he needed to light a fire and then it kind of got away from him.

Or when he got back he spoke to some wise people, Geno maybe a few others who helped him understand he was past the complaining. He is the king of CBB and gravitas will come your and you don’t need to force it anymore.

Take advantage of what you have earned don’t weaponize it toward yourself.

Either way this version of Hurley however he got there is the one that has the best chance of leading us to a three-peat.

Definitely not intentional. He wouldn’t have been labeling players first round picks in September, and all the defending the belt stuff if he was trying to bring them down to earth. If anything he was part of the over confidence.

Tip of the cap he was able to bring it back to the lab and recalibrate, but let’s not over credit via conspiracy theory.

Love Hass enthusiasm when he plays. He sometimes forces the action a little too much but overall he is doing a very nice job in distributing. And when he's on he even puts up a few 3's.

watching the 30-0 run against Illinois, Tristen Newton (6-5) had to be one of the best. He had the size to get rebounds and the skillz to lead the break. Castle (6-6) was a guy, no question, and if he played one more year he'd set UConn records. I'd like to see some stats on that. I know you said front court guys but Andre Jackson (6-6) was also a guard. The front court guys tend to get into trouble when they dribble. Liam McNeeley (6-7), we've just scratched the surface so between him and Karaban (6-8) and our bigs, it is going to be entertaining.
 
We need an official nickname for Jayden Ross. I only think of one thing when I read "Ross" and it's just not fair to Jayden. His middle name is Xavier so how about JaX

Diarra played a great game and a ton of minutes. How can you single out one play. Perhaps he was told by coaching staff to not pick up a cheap foul? He has no backup with nowell hurt.

Let’s not get delusional. Getting a fair shake is all you want. The 3rd foul on tarris was awful and massive. Playing 4 on 5 on offense after that. Danny needs to work some plays in for backup center with Samson down.

Agreed. I liked the show but I wasn't a regular so I can't opine on when it jumped the shark. Ross bagging Rachel would certainly have to be up there in the top 10 jump the shark moments in sitcom lore, I would have to believe.

I was not a regular watcher of that show at all, but you have to admit it felt great for him to bag Rachel. It's like UConn going to the Final Four in 1999 for the first time in the program's history. I hated UConn being #1 on the NCAA list for having the most wins without a Final Four appearance when teams not as good as UConn in 1994-1996 such as 1994 Florida and 1996 Miss State made appearances in the Final Four. As awful as those defeats were it got UConn to be physically tougher for future issues.

Because there is no excuse for letting a guy drive the length of the court to make a cheap layup when time is running out at either the end of the half or the game. That is how Illinois lost to Tennessee this weekend at the end of their game.

I saw the same thing you saw and yup I was upset that that kid was able to get the ball up quickly but stopping the ball is sometimes a five man job . People need to step up and rotate deep on the backside. Diarra got beat but he was a key player in the win.
In the Illinois game, the big kid who was under the basket should have played the no layups allowed game.

Kind of a random question, sorry if it was already discussed. When Reed got his first bucket (or maybe it was a foul?), did the MSG announcer call him Tarris Reed Senior? Did I imagine that?

Tarris is only a junior, and he played at Michigan, like Wolf.
 
Wanted to post a mea culpa about calling Mahaney garbage. I didn't actually mean to call him garbage, rather his play, but obviously I phrased it as the former. Was just frustrated by that 10 seconds and let it spill into this thread despite the W. I support all our Huskies, even the guys struggling, and will make sure to post any critiques of players more carefully in the future.
