Gonzaga Nerd Preview

Is it too much for one, maybe the only one of his career, chicken wing offensive foul on Timme? He literally does it EVERY SINGLE TIME, and it drives me nuts.

I’ve never been this terrified in my life. Someone tell me it’s going to be okay

Gonzaga coaches know of Timme's defensive shortcomings so I suspect they will try him on Karaban first. If that's the case, I think the offensive move is to PnR between Hawkins and Karaban with one of them taking Timme to the rack.

Timme has a lot of the same footwork and moves around the basket that Sanogo has. He also has a much better midrange game. I think Clingan can bother him, but is also really likely to bite on the moves and foul him. Sanogo can probably adjust to the footwork better, but I don't think you can stop Timme. Biggest issue for Gonzaga is stopping Sanogo and keeping Timme in the game. We can afford more fouls than they can.

.-.
Attacking Timme in PnR’s will be huge, keeping our bigs out of foul trouble, and what I’m curious is do we start by doubling down on Timme and risking Strawther and others to get hot from 3 or just dig hard?
It’s why I’m predicting a BIG Newton game. If he can attack Timme of the PNR and get him some cheap fouls we may win going away

Sanogo has the strength to make Timme start out a bit further hopefully, but Timme has a nice faceup game also. He has a ton of spin moves and counters. Really similar to Sanogo. Big difference is Sanogo gets to his pivot foot with a classic back to the basket game. Timme usually uses a bit more of a face-up game to get to his pivot foot.

Timme is a better passer, so UConn's guards need to watch out for cutters. Ball and man.

Don’t be surprised if Watson guards Sanogo- most likely between the three guys- Sanogo, Watson, & Timme one of them, if not two of them are going to get in foul trouble- thankfully we have Clinigan off the bench to give us minutes incase Sanogo does get in foul trouble.

Sorry, time until tip. And yes, Sanogo definitely has a tendency to shy away from contact on his shot attempts.

I wouldn't say he shies away from contact, he just usually has such good footwork that he gets his man leaning one way and he goes another for an easy lay-in.
