Wake against Clemson. 4th and 1 from the Clemson 40. 0-0. Punt. 15 minutes of game time later. 21-0.

Down 3 td in 4th. Punt from 45.

Did Wake think they could beat Clemson 7-6?

Never punt on the other side of the 50 on 4th and 1. Or 4th and 3 or less for that matter. 4th and short = no brainer. One could argue if you are on the 40 if it's 4th and single digits you should go for it. Odds are you are only netting 20 or so yards on the punt anyways.

Edit: By now, most people know that game theory data shows you should always go for it on 4th past the 50 right? It will take a while for that to catch on with coaches who are afraid of being aggressive and failing.

Does it really matter? It's not as if Wake was going to win anyways.
Well it's pertinent because our staff seems to always punt in similar situations.
