"Clingan isn't expected to drop past the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 7, whom he just visited for a private workout as well. He is being discussed among teams as a possible target for the likes of Chicago, Memphis, Oklahoma City or Utah, who all might explore trading up for a player in his mold."

I like the Memphis fit the best, but the idea of Clingan playing the 5 with Chet as the 4 and UConn's own Mark Daigneault running things from the sidelines... OKC would instantly become my second team

Utah? They're that low on Kessler?

This Clingan trade discourse is pretty interesting.

Every day there's a new trade rumor of a team talking about trading up for Clingan. I'm trying to figure out the agenda here.

I'd bet a lot of it is coming from the Rockets trying to drum up offers for them to trade down/out from #3. I don't think it's a coincidence that Givony has been stressing that Clingan is a "top 3 prospect" in these same articles.

But nobody 3-6 is going to take Clingan, so that has to dampen the Rockets trade market. The Blazers don't need to trade up if he will just fall to 7. But the Grizzlies perhaps would if it is seen as likely the Blazers take him at 7. The Spurs and Pistons seem to want to make their picks at 4/5 because they need talent. Charlotte maybe would move back a few spots.

I imagine their thinking is Kessler is more limited offensively than Clingan, who in a perfect world turns into a Marc Gasol-esque offensive presence. Kessler doesn't have anywhere near that feel or potential shooting range.

Please don’t mention charlotte in the same breath as any now or future husky pros.

Yeah, I guess. It's just funny to me because the obvious floor comp for Clingan is ... Walker Kessler.

really nothing more to what he posted, it's a big board and here's DC's piece

3. Donovan Clingan | C | UConn

7-3 | Age: 20.2 | Previously ranked: 3

Clingan is a top-three prospect who might experience a minor drop on draft night because teams that are in the Nos. 3-6 range already have starting centers in place. He's in conversation at No. 1 after working out in Atlanta (which is exploring trade-down scenarios). He is also spending time in Washington, which has the No. 2 pick. Clingan isn't expected to drop past the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 7, whom he just visited for a private workout as well. He is being discussed among teams as a possible target for the likes of Chicago, Memphis, Oklahoma City or Utah, who all might explore trading up for a player in his mold.

Clingan's appeal is evident at 7-foot-3 with a 7-7 wingspan and 9-7 standing reach, and he's viewed by many as the draft's most impactful defensive prospect with the timing he shows as a rim-protector and the improvement he has made guarding the pick-and-roll. His youth, productivity, touch and instincts on both ends of the court give him a high floor and make him a sleeper candidate to hear his name called at No. 1. -- Givony

In this instance it would be them moving back so that a team trades into their spot to take Clingan, not Charlotte themselves.

wow OKC would win the title in the next couple years if they got clingan. dont want him anywhere near the city of memphis or ja morant.
