Yeah no surprise here Pal...Beason, Schwartz are gone too

Any chance he could resign?
Probably not with the Giants. But someone will sign him for multi-million dollars. He is a potential starter at LT for somebody and that's a very valuable commodity. He'll get a chance somewhere.

NFL does not exactly have a player friendly set of contract rules. The players should copy their baseball brothers in the next negotiations. You sign a 40 M k but only some is guaranteed and they can cut you at ANY time?/

He'd be a quality back up at this stage in his career at the very least, if the injury bug has taken a break in his career...

Yeah... But only in theory.

If they cut you they still have to pay your guarantee (signing bonus) and they suffer a cap penalty. Keeping in mind that all signing bonuses are paid in equal portions each year of the contract length while the contract is in existence, guys with higher guarantees are less likely to be cut, obviously, since the cap savings is just the amount of salary less the entire amount of guaranteed money accelerated (meaning if I sign for 4 years for 10M and a 4M signing bonus and I'm cut after year two, my cap savings is only 500K for the first year and then 2.5M in the second year since the team is paying the remaining 2M signing bonus all in the year they cut me rather than spreading it over the two years remaining on the deal) . So it's almost pointless to cut me in year 3 if the team believes I'm worth at least 500K (which everyone is since vet minimum is like 700K).

Anyway, guess who have the highest bonuses? The best players. You don't have much to worry about if you're one of the best players on the team. So the cap is actually good protection for the best players.

The guys who get cut are the veterans who signed big money deals for lesser guarantees and now either are too old or injured to justify the cap number or have a younger guy ready to step in and take his place for far less money.

The Giants are going to be flush with cash. The question is will this GM find the right talent in the FA market to bring in.

A good GM could make next year's Giants team much better next year between free agency and the draft. The question is will Reese get his head out of his arse.

With another top 10 pick and 50+ million to spend if Reese cannot make them a playoff team next year he is completely and utterly incompetent

Jerry..his draft record already shows that...this will just reinforce that fact. GREAT points!

It's more than the draft. The Giants led the NFL in injuries for two straight years and this year they didn't lead but we up there. It's defies the odds.

With first rounders like Prince, Pugh, JPP who all missed a ton of time last year and losing Wilson completely, badly skew Reese's record. He is on the hot seat to produce, but having a more normal injury season would be a big help.

Reese has been fine in the 1st round, its rounds 3-7 where he has been horrific (2nd worse in the league since 2007) and this is why the Giants cannot overcome injuries, like say the Pats or Steelers did this year. He has built zero roster depth.

He was such a star after that 207 draft class lead to a super bowl immediately.

Then....So many head scratchers (sintum, dillard, so many ill fitting OL). WTF happened ?

When you go three straight years way outside the norm for injuries it does call in to question the organization's commitment to fitness, health and everything else. Almost eerily similar to UConn during the coach that shall not be named tenure. Pro athletes require different types of exercising, conditioning and weight lifting but it still has to be done.

Beatty seemed to have a ton of freak injuries : torn pectoral, disrupted sciatic nerve, rotator cuff, even a detached retina... just nuts.

I was thinking the same thing. It sucks he's getting cut, but he's a decent lineman and he'll get picked up quickly. Fortunately, none the injuries were to his knees or legs, so that definitely helps him.

Except for his broken leg. :D

But he came back and played well after that.

I didn't list it earlier because it wasn't that weird... not quite the sciatic nerve or cornea. ;)

Those were crazy and sound extremely painful. I'm glad he recovered. I don't think he'll be a free agent for too long.
