Georgetown Postgame Thread

Some thoughts on the Georgetown game:

• The bad news is Paige & Anna were out today. The good news is UConn was playing Georgetown.
• Once again, Evina stood out with her poise and leadership. Not quite sure where this team would be without her.
• Nika got the start which tells me she continues to work hard in practice, because Geno would never reward her with a start if she didn’t. Nika plays hard too, but often a bit rushed and that leads to mistakes. Hopefully, the game will slow down for her.
• Every time Liv does the tomahawk chop trying to block a shot it makes me yell at the tv, which causes my wife great distress. In addition, I’m really unsure whether or not it’s a good thing Liv knocked down two 3’s today………
• While the game was never in doubt, like all Husky fans, I am anxious to know the prognosis of both Paige and Anna. Specifically, when should we expect them back? Hopefully, Geno will provide more detail in his postgame presser.

2nd half was horrendous! Geno is correct, some of these players are not getting it. They look like an average women's basketball team!

Geno says the only things they are good at is the guards walking and post players not being able to score when bumped. Says he has no takeaways from today's game and it was just another bad practice.

As a freshman, Nika is very good and I see great future for her. 6 Pts 3 rebs, 3 stls.
But AG shows she is the most consistent player today, 15 pts. 7 rebs, 2 blks.

Stumblebum of the week. In my dream I would love to see UConn go indie and schedule multiple games against all Power-5 conferences. Won’t happen, of course, so we can look forward (lol) to more games like this. Georgetown was so overly matched, I would have been more interested if Autumn had played 30 minutes, as it is I found my attention wandering.

I know Geno wants Paige to ditch the "pass first" mindset, but today was so evident as to how valuable and important her passing is and running the team is.

Worst 2nd half of basketball I can ever remember. That 4th quarter was horrendous. How important is Evina, just watch the 4th quarter. We are really a poor 3 point shooting team. We may need to play Saylor more than any of us believed.

2nd half was horrendous! Geno is correct, some of these players are not getting it. They look like an average women's basketball team!

Sort of agree with you. I usually am anxious waiting for the replays to be posted but after this game, not too anxious. I will watch it and just have to admit that it wasn't a game with a whole bunch of highlights.

I was also wondering why we weren't in a zone defense more. In the first half it seemed like it was working but we were in man defense a lot more, it seemed. Could be because of who was on the court? Same with the full court pressure.

Takeaways from today's game:

1) First half defense was pretty good, considering we were without Paige and Anna
2) Christyn, Aubrey ONO, and Evina had good first halves.
3) Nika looked tight, but that was to be expected
4) Second half was HORRIBLE !!
5) Not much from either Mir McLean & Aaliyah Edwards, with AE probably having her worst game of the season
6) BOTTOM LINE: a) We definitely need Paige back Thursday; b) If we play like we played today on Thursday, it will be a 20 Point Blowout with "The Hogs" ripping us apart. c) WORST GAME PLAYED OF THE YEAR, TODAY

Well we had a game, no Paige or Anna and it showed. I agree that there is a lot to work on but Nika grew as a player today. It wasn't pretty but a win is a win. I will enjoy the games as they come...on to Arkansas

Today's game is what drives Geno and fans (yes, me) crazy about Christyn Williams. She reverted to her passive play today. She should have dominated today's game. Instead, she reverted to passive Christyn. Against Tennessee she was aggressive and took the ball to the basket. Today, Christyn just decided she'd shoot the ball from the 3-point line and if they go in great, if not oh well.

Christyn was not alone in mailing this one in.

I will not see the game until someone is kind enough to post a replay but in what has become de rigueur for me, I will read the comments and analysis first, using the Boneyard observations as a helpful preview, alerting me to nuances within the game that my untrained eyes might otherwise miss.

The first half was better only because UConn pressured Georgetown the entire half, forcing lots of turnovers and easy baskets. With no pressure in the 2nd half, UConn struggled to run their offense.

Most of the team (except Evina) looked "tight", even though Georgetown was no match from the opening tip. No flow. Everything look rushed. This team doesnt know how to play aggressive - making too many mistakes. Paige bring flow to the offense (& defense) and a "calm" that just wasnt there tonight. Arkansas will be telling.
