Good bounce back game for Karaban. As I predicted. :)

Ross looked better today. Good to see.

Still need more Nowell. Made a mistake or two but he looks relatively comfortable in there.

Kind of sloppy all around but that big run to start the 2nd half was good enough.

A week to work on some things and then Creighton at home.

Why was the strategy to literally stop running offense in the last 6 minutes, Diarra chuck prayers, and then do incessant offense defense substitutions for Ball and Stewart???

Glad we won, but a lick of effort there would’ve been a 25 point win and a real boost to the metrics. No killer instinct

Burn the last 8:22 of game tape.

Honestly I disagree strongly with the coaching strategy to take the air out of the ball the last 8min. Hurley has been whining all year that this team "doesn't have a killed instinct". So let them keep n foot on the gas the whole game then. Bury them by 40.
We definitely missed the opportunity to teach them killer instinct. We just simply ran our offense at 80% speed the last 8 min, nobody got better in that duration. What a waste.

That last 5 minutes was so digusting To watch. I said it last game and I am saying it again. End of the shot clock situation are not Hass’ forte. As much as we love him. He is just not that guy.

Also you get up 20+ gotta keep up the intensity, this team is a bit too relaxed in those situations.

Did like what I saw out of Ross and Mahaney today. Nowell gave some great minutes you could see he doesn’t have the grasp of the offense quite yet so I understand his limites minutes. Reed doing a job doing what he does.

The defense overall was excellent.

Nice to see the Alex Karaban we've seen for the last 2 years.

Ross gave some nice minutes.

Again, when Diarra is going bad, it really hurts the team. And when's he's good, the team plays very well. Hope Nowell continues to get more minutes and he looked solid.

We were the underdogs in this game per KenPom And Vegas. We’re getting a major boost in the metrics anyway

Don’t be misled by the last 10 minutes of the game. Hurley wanted the clock run down to nothing and cared only about leaving with a W. We didn’t run O with a purpose doing that. Combine that with refs making crazy calls and that’s what happened. But no danger in losing at any point second half once lead established.

I blame Hurley more for that than Hass. The good thing about those possessions in the last 8 minutes is that they burned the entire shot clock and there were not many live ball turnovers. But overall, the burning of the clock is not great because UConn doesn't have that one player that can just make stuff happen off the dribble (i.e. Kemba, Shabazz, Boatright, Butler, Hamilton, Ray, Newton, Spencer, etc.) when the shot clock runs down.

It’s like some of them just stared watching a Hurley coached team. It’s been his strategy since he’s been here
He’s also talked about the importance of margin of victory for metrics, and cited that’s why he kept starters in so long during blowouts. I’m not sure what they did today was his optimal strategy

Our best defensive game all year. I hope our defensive metrics actually get better after a game for once. Unfortunately, I wonder if our offensive metrics dip a bit by not trying to score the last 8 minutes and letting GTown claw back to within 8.

Refs making calls and the refs not making calls. How many times did Mack hit Hass in the backcourt and he kept swiping away because nothing was being called.

I agree and I know it’s real nitpicking but don’t chastise your team for not being killers and then force them to not be. Missed opportunity for the team to be killers.
I agree in theory. But I don’t think that’s the purpose of his strategy. He just dosent have the personnel to run it properly. You need a guy who can run the clock down and then get a bucket lol. Hass has the first part down just not the latter.

64-41 wirh 8 minutes left. There has to be a better way to close out games than letting Diarra dribble around like he’s a globetrotter and get shot clock violations. Insane
Yup. Style points may matter when it comes to seeding, etc. We went from a dominant win on the road against a good team, to a pedestrian win (on paper).

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of discussion on this topic. IMO, that's on Hurley, not Hass. We started to bleed the clock with over 6 minutes remaining and a 20 point win turned into an 8 point victory.

A lot of his coaching is about instilling a killer instinct. This wasn't that.

Great performance to start the second half though. And I love how Donny and Brando kept complimenting the Gtown fans for something approaching a sell-out. Give those fans a participation trophy.
For sure partly on Hurley, but Hass has to at least attempt to get a better look that trying to take his man off the bounce every possession. When we’re going our best, we’re still running offense and getting decent looks in those bleed the clock situations. None of that today.

Maybe, maybe not. It still doesn’t actually matter.

It’s always been his strategy. We just don’t have Tristen Newton or cam Spencer to go one on one and get a bucket with the clock winding down
This is why I rather see the ball in someone else's hands when the clock running down. If McNeeley was there it would be in his hands. Maybe Nowell can be that closer as Diarra can be a little iffy running offense when the clock is running down.

Agreed

There was one especially egregious one with 1-2 minutes left where it occurred not 10 feet in front of the ref with no call. Refs body expression said “I just want this to be over”.
