Absolutely great info, although Geno is being diplomatic, I think. Coaches don't vote against more days because they don't want to be on the road, it is absolutely the psychological vote of folks who can't afford (financially) to compete on the road with the "big boys" - yet I agree with Geno that it is themselves they are hurting.

Of course, the whole issue of AAU basketball, Boo, Flynn and the like - and who benefits - is a complete other issue.

Agree with Geno, the elite programs have the advantage when there's limited recruiting in select sites. The elite programs have the dollars to be in Virginia, catch a red-eye if necessary and fly to California to see another elite recruit the next day.

Can't see how a college coach can adequately evaluate talent, when a NCAA Certified event has over 100 teams participating in it. Games are scheduled at the same time in multiple facilities at the same event. How do you get to see the majority of the players. You don't.

IMHO they should do away with the April events and schedule more events in the Summer. If necessary, have more events in the mid-west instead of them being held on either coast. It seems the major AAU events are held in Virginia or Georgia/South Carolina area.

The rich get richer and they all use excuses on why they lose a player........UCONN is on TV most every game and elite players come to see UCONN on their $$$ before coaches come and see them.......

Interesting article...you must have to have a battery of lawyers on staff just to keep the arcane scouting rules straight. And we all know what happens when lawyers get involved!

Agree that there should be more summer dates; word has it that they may move to a series of 4-5 "3-day weekends" in July. That way parents wouldn't have to miss as many work days. April and October windows always baffled me since (because of the distance of the tournaments for most teams), players have to miss 1-2 school days. Nice job on that NCAA/coaches!

Insell's comment baffled me: "
"Kids are going to get passed over, kids are not going to get scholarships, because they're losing the days," Insell said.

Aren't the same amount of scholarships being given out regardless of what the recruiting rules are???

And as much as everyone complains about AAU events, ask any college coach if they'd rather see a kid play in a HS game or an AAU games, for evaulation purposes.
