Geno Startles Albany Area Hooper

Geno showed up on Tuesday at Niskayuna HS near Schenectady to watch Olivia Owens a 6'3" soph who also plays for the Albany Rocks AAU team. Evidently, when the young girl saw Geno, she went into a bit of a panic and tried to alert her coach to pull her out until she could regain her composure. The coach did not see Geno and could not figure out what the young girl wanted.

Neat slice of life story. We'll see with time what kind of game Olivia has.

That's pretty great. I think there was a link to an article in another thread that he'd be out there and that she was a rising sophomore - apparently athletic, a growing game, and a super great kid...

Auriemma saw Owens play a couple of times during her City Rocks AAU season. A national-level recruit, Owens already has offers from the University of Minnesota and Syracuse University, and began to hear from UConn last summer.


Back at Niskayuna after spending her freshman year at Holy Names, Owens is averaging 13.8 points per game. She scored a season-high 21 points Tuesday in front of Auriemma.


Auriemma told Niskayuna officials he expects to come see Owens again. If he does, Owens — who turned 16 years old Wednesday — said she will be prepared.

I think it was either Linnae Harper or Jewell Loyd who said the entire gym went silent when Geno walked into one of her games. Coach Cool strutted in from the freezing Chicago weather wearing loafers and no socks.
