I thought Geno's comments on Samarie Walker support past discussions about parents pushing their children to attend certain colleges. The outcome is often the same whether the child is an athlete or not: unhappiness.

It is good that this came out ahead of the weekend. Ms Walker is happy, let us wish the best for her.

How often does a transfered player get to play against their former team in such a meaningful game?

Although a bit much to expect, it would be an awfully classy gesture if the UConn fans demonstrated some love toward Ms Walker in a substantial manner.

Here's something we should all remember about Samarie:

I don't recall the exact stats for Samarie in the Baylor Game last year; but I clearly remember that she had a big impact on the game -- especially lots of rebounds; and significant points, too. Without Samarie, UConn would have lost to Baylor in that early season match-up. And UConn's breaking the all time consecutive wins record would not have followed.

SO -- for basketball history, and all the attention the winning streak brought to UConn and WCBB, we owe Samarie a BIG "THANK YOU" for her contribution to UConn basketball during the time she was a Husky.

Bottom Line: Samarie owns a part of the "streak." And I will always salute her for that.

All friendships are checked at the door until the 40 minutes are played. UCONN needs to take care of Penn State 1st on Sunday.....then think about KY, if they win.......That is a big IF......

Olde Coach: That is exactly right. I remember saying to my wife when she transferred that if she left any sooner we may very well have not gotten that streak record. IMO it was her best game in a UCONN uniform. Showed what she is capable of. I'm sure she will do very well the rest of her career at KY.

You are absolutely right, UConn cannot look beyond Penn State. They have a couple of players in Maggie Lucas and Alex Bentley who can take over a game. The only way UConn loses is if their offense sputters completely; If the lid just totally shuts on the basket. Penn State has not shown either during the season or in this tournament that they are committed to shutting anyone down defensively. UNLV in the 70's, Oral Roberts in the 70's, Loyola Marymount in the 80's; All prolific offensive teams, all exciting teams to watch, but defense is what gets teams to Final Fours. The only memorable exception is the 1989 Michigan team with Glen Rice, Loy Vaught, Terry Mills, Rumeal Robinson, and Sean Higgins.
Kentucky, on the other hand has to concern itself with Gonzaga. The Zags were seriously underseeded and caught a couple of favorable matchups on their home floor.

Here you go Olde Coach, in addition to which Samarie Walker went to to toe inside with Brittney Griner.

- Right on target, as usual, OC!
- I’d welcome her any day. For the same reason. Can’t help but like a kid who, after providing such critical play in that important game… emerged from it with: 'I've never even seen a 6-8 female person before!”'
- Friendship? Nahh. Look, like most fans, I don’t know the girl, so I’m not worried polite applause during player intros will make her my new friend.
-Polite applause during intros has nothing to do about friendship; it has everything to do about UConn sportsmanship. And ever since Coach A came to town, anything regarding Connecticut basketball that is not yet first rate, appears simply unsatisfactory.

7 boards and used up every foul she could in 25 minutes... thats great.
And BG shot foul shots unusually poorly that night. Griner is a load; playing against her for 25 minutes before fouling out--a foul only every 5 minutes--is better than Stef did, if I recall.

She played very physically against BG and it had an impact. Maybe the poor FT shooting was a result of the physical play taking its toll on BG.

Samarie is very, very strong. Could be.
