I'm not so sure about this. Geno is usually not very forthcoming about player injuries. Wasn't the status of Azzi with her two previous injuries, 2022-23 season and last season, almost non existent for quite a while after she sustained them?
Not saying that is related to now, just throwing it out there.
I am guessing that the team practiced today and we won't get any news on her (or anyone's) participation. Which is normal.
I believe the school released a statement Sunday stating there would not be any updates until GA’s Press availability on Tuesday, at the earliest.

While I agree that Geno may not provide details on Azzi’s health, a reporter will ask about Azzi’s availability to play against ND, and Geno will say yes, no or maybe.

I agree with ERWUC65 one hundred per cent. Azzi should (and will ) be held out, with limited play, until the end of the season. Let the knee rest awhile (hopefully she is not injured). We want to be top notched in March and ready to rumble. We can forgo Azzi now and build up Morgan and Allie!

No way.
If her knee is that bad then she shouldn't play. If the concern is this extreme from the team then just sit out the year.
This all shouldn't be just for the glorification for UCONN. The kid wants to play. She signed up to play. If she is cleared she will want to play.

They can't ignore the Doctor's just because some of us may or may not be scared.

This thread gives insights into the mind frame of various posters, their risk tolerances, their various levels of optimism and pessimism. What they saw or thought they saw. Little else.

Sometimes you just have to sit and wait. Not always easy, but that is where we are. You would think we would be good at it by now.

Azzi posted on her IG story an hour ago doing a gingerbread pulling competition. Probably grasping at any little thing for a sign, but hopefully that is a good one that she is feeling good today.
Taffy pulling?

The most heartening sign to me (as others have posted) is that no ice was applied to the knee as Azzi sat on the bench.

As far as holding her out or holding her back until March, I'm at a loss trying to understand that. She just sat out a calendar year. She wouldn't have been cleared to play unless she was deemed medically healthy. Every athlete in a team sport or tennis* risks injury every time he/she takes the court or field or pool. It's a cost of being mortal.

* I suppose golfers and bowlers can suffer back injuries and what not. Same with water polo-ers and equestrians.

Well...by next Friday morning...the day after our game with ND... I hope the best news will NOT be about
our win over the Irish but the news we have already heard about Azzi's health. The Geno/Azzi hug and smiles made me
beam.
Irish fan here. I hope she’s okay and fully healthy on Thursday for the game.

Go Irish!☘️

Um, has anyone suggested that Azzi should play if she isn't medically cleared? In any event how would playing an injured player be for the "glorification of UConn"?

* I can and have sustained back injuries playing golf, Gus, or more precisely exacerbated a long-term bad back by continuing to play anyway:(

So well said.... it's the cost of being mortal.

Umm I was responding to the post that suggested to limit playing her until the end of the season. I said "no way" to this. If she is cleared and she signed up to play for UCONN and if the Doctor’s clear her then my point was implied “why limit her minutes?”

By "the glorification of UCONN” I meant that by the poster suggesting limiting Azzi’s minutes, that poster is limiting Azzi’s growth despite the fact she is better than nearly all others all because UCONN could rack up another trophy with little regard to what has been their core belief of “practice and reward those playing the best.”

If Azzi is showing that she is better than near all others and you are just going to “save her” for The NCAA’s, imo that’s a betrayal of everything they have ever done. Because how is it that you are rewarding Azzi if she is cleared to play and better than nearly all and wants to play?

Perhaps some of us are thinking beyond a title for UConn this year, perhaps thinking about a potential future in the WNBA, perhaps thinking that there might be a life beyond college.

It also seems it's the cost of playing for UConn. ;)

And perhaphs some are forgetting about most every other player on the team and only thinking of "height" and Jana?

If Azzi is cleared to play, she plays. How many minutes will be determined by Geno and how the game goes.

We are not a one woman team. There is plenty of talent for scoring, defense and rebounding.

The bottom line is, if Azzi is cleared to play then let her play. The Louisville game was the best they have played this year, and why did that happen? Easy, Azzi played like Azzi can play, and what a difference that made in the game. They looked like their old selves, so it appears that Azzi is the missing piece to make the team great, and if she only has a minor injury, then we are on our way to becoming very, very hard to beat. So, if she is cleared, she plays, if the news is bad, we still have a chance, but the road will be that much harder because the youngins will have to show up every night. Hoping for the best, because Azzi is the player that will get us to Tampa.
