I'm a Geno fanatic, even when I occasionally criticize or "offer suggestions". I listen intently to everything he says.
I do think Geno is struggling in this Covid world like all of us are. I feel like his comments are not as "pointed" as I'm used to. Lots of fidgeting, ahs, you knows. I think more than usual. I thought that he struggled with the Pat/1099 questions. I think he ended up figuring out how to address it, but I think it took a minute. Because it was his record, it naturally had to come back to him. I think it would have been easier if he could have just focused on Pat. Maybe he should have. To do what he's done for so long, you have to love the day-to-day routine. Amazing!
One more comment from the peanut gallery: I'd like to see more effusive praise for the players. Even if it's a tad hyperbolic, we all need a boost about now. Enough quips about not knowing what to expect.....
Congrats Geno. Set a record that will never be challenged!

He has praised all the players at one time or another when deserved. But praise is best when it is special and not commonplace and he is always coaching to a level above their current level. In the end, he likes to be the ogre and wants the players to adopt an "Really coach, I'll show you" mentality.

I like your comments for sure. I think this Covid world has kind of dulled our senses a tad and I just made a couple of my own observations about that. I know it has affected me big time.
I was thinking about a player like Aubrey. I think she would benefit from some comments like I described. IMO she doesn't need reminding about her "not being in the right spots". I'm sure she gets that from 4 different directions in practice. IMO she makes smart plays too. Yesterday when she was on the left side of the rim, being boxed out and she made a quick move to get to the other side and grab the offensive rebound, that was a smart play, not just, as Geno says an "impactful" play. Ribbing Paige or D or Stewie is a different animal.

He was very complementary of Aubrey after the game and he claps on the sidelines all the time (between scolding's ;)) He is not saying that Aubrey is not in the right spots anymore (That seems to be MIR this year)I believe and her passing, FTs, OReb and driving are all way better. The best compliment is her rise in minutes and starting position. I am sure she gets positive feedback all the time and it does not need to be only Geno. That is what Assistant coaches are for to help soften the message.

My 2 cents.............most folks here in the yard have heard of "The peanut Gallery", but few know its origin. Anyone under 60 has no clue unless they looked it up.

Geno eclipsed her record in another way. He surpassed her win total in LESS GAMES (years) than she did.
I would like to see/hear ANYONE that makes reference to this record also mention Chris Dailey as well. She was sitting right next to him for most of those wins.

The Howdy Doody Show (1947-1960) with Buffalo Bob and the Peanut Gallery - Circa 1948

I think I read somewhere that she missed a game to attend a funeral or a wedding once. Geno said he could have never done it without her. He's The Batman, she's Robin. Whatever banners, etc. they present Geno when it's all over, they should present CD with the same thing!!

They are a team. I understand the coach-assistant coach relationship. Theirs is a unique one. Think about it for a moment. How many coaches RIGHT NOW have coached as long as Geno has, and has had the same assistant there the whole time?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the answer is a nice number number, like "zero".

Yes, the cheapest seats were up top and the cheapest food there were peanuts which the hecklers would throw at the performers at times to show their disapproval.

I believe she (Chris Daley) was sitting right next to him for all of those wins...and some when he wasn't coaching.

Peanut gallery referred to the cheap seats in vaudeville theaters in the late 19th century.

Upon further review...............
I stand "factually" corrected. The vaudeville days were way before my time. The first I ever heard of the peanut gallery was on the Hoody Doody Show. Now I know how/where they got the term. A peanut gallery was, in the days of vaudeville, a nickname for the cheapest and ostensibly rowdiest seats in the theater, the occupants of which were often known to heckle the performers.

The least expensive snack served at the theatre would often be peanuts, which the patrons would sometimes throw at the performers on stage to convey their disapproval. Phrases such as "no comments from the peanut gallery" or "quiet in the peanut gallery" are extensions of the name.

In recent times, the term has taken on new meanings with the advent of social networks and online chat rooms. "Peanut gallery" may also refer to the stream of open comments visible on certain types of blogs.

In 1943 the Howdy Doody children's radio show adopted the name for its live audience of children. Howdy Doody is most remembered for its later transition to television, which continued the Peanut Gallery audience, now on camera.

Thanks again RedStickHusky. ;) The things you learn on the Boneyard.

Side note: Had I been able to attend vaudeville shows back then, The Peanut Gallery would have been my section of choice. I know I would have enjoyed sitting among like minded people.
