Auriemma is joined by Karen Aston (Texas), Scott Rueck (Oregon State) and Vic Schaefer (Mississippi State) on the finalist list.

Auriemma Named a Finalist for 2017 Naismith Women's Basketball Coach of the Year

It's an anticlimax right?

Apparently, there is a fan vote component this year. Only 5%

"This year, fans have a say in the voting process. Fans should visit www.naismithtrophy.com/vote from March 20-31 to cast their ballot for one of these four Naismith Award finalists. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on March 31 and fans are limited to one vote per day. The fan vote will account for five percent of the total vote."

A little disappointed with the choices - good coaches all, but would have liked to see some coach with a turn-around story instead of all four being coaches of top ten teams (by seeding) and all four basically repeating that success from the previous season. Rueck and Geno have done that 'with mirrors' after the graduation of the top two/three of their rosters, Karen did lose a lottery pick and Viv really brought back his whole team.

Like UCF for example?

In his 32-year tenure, Auriemma has won a total of seven Naismith Coach of the Year awards, including last year in 2015-16.

Geno & Rueck for sure, but I don't get Aston & Schaefer. Duke & WV seem worthy as overachievers to name a few.

Totally agree with Oldude. Geno, Rueck, McCallie and Carey for sure. I would also probably add the coaches from NC State and Kansas state as well...

All good names - and others out there as well - if you are putting JPM in the pool than Mitchell at KY is a similar story. No big deal, and both TX and Miss State are clear turn-around stories for the program, just that it has been a progression and not 'this year' specifically.
