This article quotes Geno as saying "there are so many more good teams deserving of a No. 1 seed than they are." I think that is a tongue in cheek/sarcastic Genoism misinterpreted by a tone deaf reporter. The other day he said he thought they deserved a number 1. I don't see Geno taking that kind of gratuitous swipe at his buddy's team. False drama. Certainly nothing we need out there on game day.

The full context of the quote says he was being sarcastic:

“The significance of tomorrow night as far as the N.C.A.A. tournament is concerned is probably huge for Louisville because everybody is talking about them being a No. 2 seed at home,” he said of the Cardinals, who will serve as a regional host for the first time, on March 29 and April 1. “I know because there are so many more good teams deserving of a No. 1 seed than they are.”

Gotta love Asia Taylor's confidence:

“They are definitely beatable,” Taylor said. “We just have to be disciplined and play 40 minutes.”

Is there a more overused sports expression than "We have to play hard for [insert sport/level-specific game duration here]"?

"Giving 110%".

"They wanted it more"

Based on our history with L'Ville, they are definitely beatable.

As we used to say about Manny...Geno is just being Geno. If you don't know him, he's really easy to misread.

"They have to COMPETE!" or "They just didn't COMPETE!"

Just another example of Geno Sarcasm........Nothing more.

Yeah, Pedulla definitely misplaced who the biting sarcasm was aimed at. No better way to give the issue more attention than for Geno to make it somewhat controversial.

Love having these articles in the NY Times, but another problem with the piece is that it did not mention that Louisville was moving on to the ACC. When it talked at the end about whether the Cardinals could compete with the Huskies in the future, it should have stated that the competition will be at a distance and they will be competing more with ND.

"It was a learning experience...."

"We've got to fight through this."

"We put up a good fight."
