I'm not a big fan of a lot of what they do at the skill labs, but for a kid like Griffiths who needs to add some creativity to his package, it could be beneficial.

Dude is smooth/his hand and foot motions look pretty effortless. Moreso than a year ago.

I’ve always wondered what the value of a guy like Chris Brickley is. I see those videos of guys shooting in that nice looking gym in NY and it seems fairly useless. What does he do for them?

Having been to one of Brickley's workouts in NYC, he's just posting videos of the flashy footwork and a bunch of makes after one of his NBA guys has dialed in the skill. There's a lot that doesn't get shown in his social media stuff:

1. Tons of cardio work
2. The really rote stuff like 200 left hand finger rolls in a row or something.
3. The players getting their behinds whooped on finishing drills. The guys SHOULD be missing some terrible layups constantly if they're learning new skills.

He's a great trainer, and there are a ton of great trainers out there. Especially at the NBA level, I understand why they work on the wonky footwork and such.

What I don't love about the I'm Possible/Skill Lab people is how much value they place on these ridiculous finishes... spinning left-hand fingerrolls from behind the backboard with no shoes on and a den of rattlesnakes in the landing zone.

The kids that go there either never use that stuff (Gaffney) or they end up being ridiculous chuckers that shoot 30% from the field. I want players that can catch a body and make basic left and right hand finishes of either foot, or both. It's a much simpler game than we like to admit at times.

Lol

You want someone to commit murder!

That’s the word on the recruiting scene side… not fun to hear. Hard to play 4 out when you favor dynamic athletes over shooters every year.
Ugh, don't like hearing this at all. Really hoping it's not true.

.-.
I realize scoring 25 or 30 against the likes of Greenwich Country Day and Greens Farms Academy isn’t as impressive as putting up those numbers against NEPSAC Class A programs. But this kid can flat out stroke it from deep. And he’s local. Need to reel in Griffiths.

We'll have another year where our starting lineup has two shooters total, coach will blame the players, rinse repeat. It's been happening for 4 years now.
The past does not have to repeat. I think we'll be fine with the sorts of players we're bringing in/recruiting and the system that Dan Hurley is talking about.

Quite possibly one of the worst philosophies for a coach to have. There's no way Murray, Kimani, and Moore are all on board with this too, right? They have to talk some sense into Hurley.

He's talking out of both sides of his mouth again. He's been saying this entire offseason that he realized we need more shooters. So he went out and got Newton and Alleyne (so far). And now he's flip flopped to prioritizing athletes with limited shooting skills instead of one of the best shooters in his class? Why?

It's his comfort zone. He knows he can take a bunch of athletes and put together a decent regular season record that will have us in the 20-30 range on the ranking services--he's done it before. Trusting himself to coach up some less-than-elite athletes on the defensive end and leaning on their skill to improve our offense is new to him.

Roster composition has been a problem for Hurley’s entire tenure here.

In recruiting, historically and even moreso now, you cast a wide net in terms of skillsets, polished versus developed guys/specific skillsets, etc. You recruit 4 or 5 guys really hard to net one of them. We're now recruiting both really good shooters and really good athletes (and some are both).

I wouldn't get too concerned until you see the actual commits and how they plug into the rest of the roster.

We'll see how he does with Karaban and Clingan. I think it's been pretty clear he has been targeting more shooting so lets see how the rest of this cycle and the next playout. I had also heard Griffiths isn't super high on UConn, but it is super hard to tell where we stand with him sitting out the first two sessions.

I'm gonna wait until we actually stop recruiting him and miss on him before I start complaining. I know that's a crazy concept
And even then, why complain about it. We're not getting every local kid - some want to go away for their college experience.

Who are we targeting instead? Not going to criticize roster composition until I know who we're actually bringing in.

Coleman maybe? I am not willing to roast Hurley yet either but Gavin seemed teed up and he is a specialist at our biggest need.

A lot of us have been excited about this local 23 class for a couple of years and now many of the reports have us watching kids from the Midwest and California. DMV too which is cool.

We have offered two team Melo guys, but not Coleman yet.

Yeah would seem to be really silly if we've back off here. Athletic, local shooter in the top 50? What's not to like?

I guess I'm also a bit confused about the class of 2023 in general. We've been told by a few insiders that Castle was just the start of a monster 2023 class...but it almost seems like we are starting over with a ton of new names that we've been tied to lately. The guys that I thought were going to make up the "monster class" after Castle (Edwards, TBB, Griffiths, Miranda, etc.) all seem to be out of the picture or there are conflicting reports in regards to our interest level (Griffiths and TBB). Anyone have any thoughts here?

Seriously. The Hurley haters and "objective critics" will take the smallest crumbs of potential info (whether ultimately true or not) and use them to fuel the same tired complaints, piss&moan sessions. Its exhausting to read.

Unfortunately (fortunately) , some of these posters can post good/very good things more than occasionally so I find it hard to block them. :)

If I recall the perception was also that we weren’t really recruiting karaban either and then he turned into a commitment. I’ll let it play out a bit longer before I’m gettin g pissed at Hurley.

We watched everyone one of his games last summer. This isn't quite accurate.
