Gandy Stuff

I have a feeling Gandy will play a bit like Jana did last season by her sophomore season. That is, not entirely confident with her shot even up close, and occasionally fumbling rebounds away, but also being a significant defensive intimidator and rim protector. That profile served Geno very well in this tournament. She has really good speed for someone that size, maybe as good as anyone in D1.

And if I can put on my turban for a moment, in her junior season, which will be Sarah's senior season and maybe Jana's 4th season too, she will be an even more efficient rim protector, and more of her speed and athleticism will be of service to her growing offensive skills. She won't have to carry the full defensive load next to Jana (and maybe Olivia 🙀) or the offensive load next to Sarah and Blanca, which means whatever she can contribute beyond rebounding and intimidating will be gravy.

In order to see into her senior season, I'd need both my turban and my crystal ball, and it's out getting polished just now.

I liked the comment that her being raw might work to her advantage.

A lot of kids, especially those who played a lot of AAU ball, have to unlearn a lot of bad habits. Gandy had a good coach in high school, but didn't play a lot of undisciplined "look at me" ball in the summers. She's obviously receptive to Geno's teaching. She's big, strong, likes to run the floor; get her some coaching from Chris and Jamelle, and she should have a bright future.
