It wanders around more than a little, but what better do you have to do. You're here aren't you?
Here’s a full game from yesterday. For anyone that’s never seen a high school game, this is pretty typical - don’t expect UConn vs South Carolina here. Scroll forward 17 minutes to get to the tip-off.
Gandy is raw, yes, but she’s got 1 1/2 year of high school left plus a summer in AAU. I saw an article that she’s been working with Bob Hurley, Sr, Danny’s dad and a much esteemed high school coach in New Jersey. And Gandy already has something that’s hard to teach: she approaches the game like a true post player, not like a tall girl that wants to be a guard. I hope to see some more games on YouTube going forward so we can watch her progress.
The coaching gene is dominant in the Hurley family. Son Dan Jr. was the Duke point guard from 89-93, were he got two national championship rings and was s first team AA his senior year. As a player he was tough and intense. Think a larger version of Nika. Brother Danny played at Seton Hall, went into coaching and got a national championship ring at some university in the lovely Connecticut countrysideBob Hurley, Sr. is in the Naismith HOF. He’s the best of the best.
Some UCONN players. You won't see Paige missing too many layups. Besides, it's one thing to hit them in High School especially if you're a lot taller than everyone else. But in college there are a lot of bigs and they are very physical. So even when you're not getting hit you think you might and that's probably why they rush the shots so much. But - I agree they miss way too many.if nothing else this video illustrates that Gandy is an effective maker of layups...........a skill that current UConn players sometimes seem to lack.......

The All-American Duke point guard was Bobby Hurley, not Dan Jr. Bobby is now the head coach at Arizona State. The coaching gene is dominant in the Hurley family. Gill has always been considered one of the better schools for WBB in NJ with many players going on to DI success.........in this instance, the competition was less than stellar..........Gandy has yet to show the defensive instincts that are needed to be an imposing player down low.........at 6'5" she should be swatting shots away with regularity, but I didn't see that in this game..........hopefully that will improve somewhat with more instruction....She reminds me of Piath, another big with foot speed and limited skills. It looks like Geno is getting ready for the next project. She may develop really quickly, but I doubt that will happen playing at Gill St Bernard. The level of play there is just not challenging enough, if we can judge from this game. Sandy looks to be bigger and stronger than Piath, and may have even more foot speed. This is a good foundation, if she has the heart to challenge herself.
