The crowd brought their A+ game. Nearly willed them on to victory.
Reminded me of Manley Field House on old...it looked crazy. I'm going to miss these games. As I called it pregame this game would come down to the last minute...I know this rivalry too well. If you win a few games in NYC and get an 8/9 seed you'll be a nightmare for some #1.
of course fans of the lesser program are tired of playing their more dominant foes. sure they may beat us every now and again in the regular season, but i'm sure they're tired of seeing three banners hanging in our rafters. It amazes me that there are comments on the SU board where posters never want to play us again and relish our relegation to a supposed 'lesser league.'
Atmosphere was great in there. I watched the replay of the game and thought it was funny when Vitale said something to the effect of...i like the atmosphere in here tonight and i wish they played all their games here instead of having to split with Hartford because of the money.
I agree. And its times like last night when we are reminded how great an atmosphere it is at Gampel and how much better it is then Hartford.
I've been to many UConn games with a small handful of fans having behavior that was completely out of control. They should have been thrown out at the very least. But this has been true for most games I have attended over the years - UConn-Syracuse; Springfield College-AIC; or UMass playing whatever team is kicking their asses.
Most people don't notice it when they are at a home game because they are far less likely to be sitting in the visitors' section. When they go to an away game, they are more likely to see the ugly side of a few fans.
One thing mentioned in the Syracuse thread you are referring to is difficult to disagree with - a child should not be afraid to go to a college hoops game because of a few obnoxious fans. I got four tickets for a friend several years ago to take her husband and two children to the UMass-UConn game. I was told a couple idiots yelling threats to the UMass fans who were cheering scared the hell out of their children. That's just wrong.
Would like to see it happen for those games that aren't part of Gameday. No other Gampel game has been close to what happened on Saturday. In fact, the next 3 best crowds of the year were at the XL Center.
Admittedly the Gampel crowds to this point haven't been great, but look at the Gampel schedule: AIC, Columbia, Wagner, Harvard, Cincinnati, & DePaul. Not as likely to get a crowd fired up as Marquette, Notre Dame, West Virginia, or even avenging a loss to Seton Hall. I think the crowd will bring it's A-game to welcome JC back for a must-win vs. Pitt.
Cant take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Little kids.
