Games Jan. 13-19

Big Day of Big South Basketball gets started in a bit. Games I have my eyes one are the Campbell vs Presbyterian and High Point vs Longwood Matchups.

And which denominations are facing off? The Presbyterians and the Baptists?

FGCU is in a battle at North Alabama, tied 32-32 at halftime.

The Battle of South Dakota was moved to tomorrow due to expected inclement weather.

North Alabama had a 6-point lead in mid-3Q, but FGCU responded with a 12-0 run and remained in control from there. Keri Jewett-Giles really took over in 4Q, finished with 25 points. FGCU wins by 11 despite shooting only 4-18 from 3.

Also getting a stiff test was Central Michigan, who trailed Western Michigan 55-44 late in 3Q but then went on a 25-4 run to put the game away. Micaela Kelly finished with 31 points, and freshman Molly Davis had 19.

The Camels pull off a tougher than expected battle with the Blue Hose 53-47. My Panthers of HPU down Longwood 76-69 to improve to 4-3 in the Big South. The Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb down USC-Upstate 63-53. My Spartans of UNC-G down the Catamounts from WCU to remain undefeated in Southern Conference play 54-43. In A-10 Action.... My Wildcats of Davidson College remain in first place with a 62-55 over George Washington. Last but not least, My Aggies of NC A&T beat the stuffing out of Coppin State.... 84-38.

We won't discuss Charlotte or App State

you got it..... fierce rivalry

South Dakota is jumping all over South Dakota St., up 37-22 approaching halftime.

UCF inspired by moral victory over UConn, looks to be beating South Fla. 62-57

Iowa was down 15 at halftime to Wisconsin, but came back to win 85-78.

Sabaly cuts, drops the ball, scores anyway. Dux 29-Cal 12; 38 sec left in Q1.

Don't look now, but HuskyNan's Fighting Phoenix is up to 4-2 in the Colonial... 9-8 overall. Elon over Hofstra 69-58

I take it we only have Baylor fans on the BY as opposed to Big 12 fans.

No one watch / interested in today's Big 12 match-ups?

There used to be some Texas fans on here but they've been laying low.

Big 12 really is only Baylor though, so...

Georgia Tech with a fairly bad home loss to Boston College today. GT has been a pleasant surprise this year, that's a head scratcher.

TCU wooped Oklahoma. Just when the Sooners are showing some life. In Norman too. TCU is 4-1 and sitting in 2nd place in the Big 12.

Minnesota got a badly needed win, @ Purdue.

I was thinking of putting Georgia Tech in my next BY top 25 ballot, but they really blew one today.

They didn't lose the game on defense, only giving up 55 points. (GT leads the country in scoring defense at only 48.8 ppg.) They just couldn't get their shooting going. Cubaj, a 47% shooter on the year, was limited by foul trouble and had only 9 points. Their other four starters shot only 20% (8 of 40). Just one of those days.

South Dakota annihilated South Dakota St. 83-48.
I’ve seen the Coyotes three times now. They’re for real; SDSU is a pretty decent team.

There should be some teams hoping South Dakota isn’t in their region.

South Dakota State is missing their best player, Myah Selland, who's out with injury. They are nowhere near as good without her.

As for South Dakota, I'll be interested to see where the committee seeds them. Their problem is that the Summit League outside of the two South Dakota teams is really, really bad (mostly in the 200s and 300s of the RPI). South Dakota's SOS has already taken a huge hit and dragged their RPI into the 40s.

A doubly rough day for Oklahoma State. Natasha Mack played only 3 minutes before going down with an ankle injury. She returned to the bench on crutches and in a boot. The Cowgirls had a double-digit lead in the first half and then led by 7 in mid-4Q before losing by a point.

If anyone is interested each day I can post a "Daily Top 10 Performances" by: P5, High-Major (Big East & AAC) and Mid-Major.
