Games Feb. 3-9

Geez, 10-0 answer from SMC, up 30-16 w/ a bit over 3 minutes til halftime. This would be a terrible loss for GU if they don't turn it around.

GU trailing 32-23 at half. Shooting 30% from the floor while SMC is hitting at a 52% clip. Hard to win w/ that kind of gap in FG accuracy.

Boise St. continues to be perplexing. A terrible Utah St. team is on a 13-0 run and is about to steal one on BSU's home court.

edit--wow, crazy finish. BSU got a bucket w/ about 2 seconds left, but Utah St. got a hoop on the following possession. 58-56 final, really bad loss for the Broncos.

Rice took care of MTSU pretty handily, 77-60. Erica Ogwumike with a huge game: 25 points, 17 rebounds. Nancy Mulkey added 20 points and 4 blocks.

Rellah Boothe finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 fouls in 15 minutes of play. Her first significant minutes since her freshman year at Texas two years ago. MTSU is clearly better with her on the court, but she doesn't yet have the conditioning to go more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time.

Old Dominion pulled away late to beat UTEP, and that sets up a huge game on Thursday between Rice and ODU, which could end up deciding the C-USA regular season race.

SMC still leading 51-37 w/ a bit over 2 minutes left in Q3.

BYU and San Diego tied at 28 most of the way thru Q3. Lowest combined point total of the day?

.-.
Saint Mary's is going off from 3 -- 10 of 17 is probably the best they've shot all year. There's always one game where anybody can shoot lights out.

Now 11-18 and GU is 5-17. Zags shooting 31% overall. Maybe missing Campbell a lot today. 55-37.

Zags mounting a rally, 18 point deficit cut in half. 63-55 w/ 5 minutes left.

Too little too late, SMC back up by 14 under 2 minutes left. I wonder how far Gonzaga will fall in the next poll?

Or much more importantly, does this loss cost them a hosting spot? It might.

The bigger issue is that they're clearly a lesser team without Campbell. Doesn't help that the Wirth twins both went for goose eggs.

That's certainly a possibility. Their resume was fairly thin.

It was upside down day in the Mountain West. 4 roads teams w/ worse conference records than the host won--Utah St. over Boise St., Air Force over San Diego St., New Mexico over Wyoming and Nevada over San Jose St. Only Fresno St. is holding serve, up 15 in the closing seconds against UNLV. FSU strengthens their hold on the top spot and all the other contenders stumbled badly.

I looked at Fresno St.'s schedule, definitely not an at large worthy resume. 20-4 overall, 13-0 in conference. No notable wins, 3 losses to WCC teams (none of which were Gonzaga). Wasn't quite sure, but definitely a 1 bid league.

A team from Seattle won a game! It just wasn't the Huskies. Seattle U. w/ a thrilling 82-80 overtime win over Utah Valley. The WAC is one of the worst conferences in the country, but at 4-5 in league and 10-12 overall the Redhawks are well clear of being in the conversation for worst teams in the country (conference mate Chicago St. at 1-9 and 1-22 clearly is very much in the running for that distinction).

Game of the Men's side just finished.... GTHC GTH !!! 98-96 in overtime Duke over that other school

Sorry @triaddukefan but those Duke uniforms were horrendous, but so were UNC's. They looked like practice jerseys. Ugly. Are you thanking your lucky stars the Heels couldn't hit a FT to save their life? They should've won by double digits in regulation. But enjoy celebrating your win over the worst Carolina team in more than a decade.

This team sheet tells the story. When you see only red squares in the left two columns, and the schedule so heavily weighted toward the right two columns, that means no chance at an at-large bid.

Not to mention the very questionable no-call that served it up.

It was a devastating way for UNC to lose, but a Duke loss would've been 10 times more devastating, to lose to the worst Tar Heel team since the days of Matt Doherty.

Yeah, wasn't even going to mention that. It's Duke, so it's to be expected.

Those uniforms were Nike's idea. Throwback uniforms to 1920.... first year of games between the two institutions. Yes.... Im gonna celebrate a rivalry game.. now if I lived in North Dakota or Vermont... my celebration would be a bit muted. But not having to listen to Tar hole fans for the rest of the month.... is a wonderful thing.

Best kind of victory to have.... one that rips the heart out and pierces the soul. They are having their worst season in years.... but a victory last night would have been a gleam of sunshine for their fans........ but it was ripped from them in a most cruel way..... 8 years to the exact day when another Duke player wearing #0 ripped the heart out of the tarholes in the same arena.

 Sounds like a closet Tarheel fan. You know.... they went 21-38 from the foul line... if they are gonna blame anybody... blame their sorry arse free throw shooting by their scholarship players. Hit 3 or 4 more free throws... the game would have been won in regulation.

Well, I suppose their fans can take solace in the fact that their team has actually had more postseason success than Duke has had in recent years, despite the fact that Duke supposedly has the best coach and definitely has had the better recruits.

Those uniforms were Nike's idea.

I figured Nike had something to do with it.

Hey, I already mentioned UNC's FT futility. Like I said it never should've gone to OT, but it did. I wouldn't call myself a Tar Heel, but like most rational people I can't stand K and his evil empire.

Boston College is pounding Clemson 32-16 midway thru Q2. Home game for the Tigers but apparently that isn't helping at all.

Didn't see a separate thread for this one. DePaul in another dogfight, leading Seton Hall 34-31 midway thru Q2.

Clemson has erased a 15 point halftime deficit, tied w/ BC w/ about 30 seconds left.

DePaul leading 50-40 at the half
Quite the offensive showcase in this game.

Chante Stonewall, after having a bad game at St. John's, has come out on fire: 24 points on 10-14 FG in just the first half. She could be having a career game.
