Gamecocks 2025-2026 Season

So the defense is pretty clearly not near the SC standard, but curious where you think our D measures up against the other top 25 teams.

In other words, is it poor, average, or good-just-not-great?
I think our defense is still top 25. It's just we're used to being top 2 or 3.

It would be hilarious if we won a title with a team that had to win shootouts against elite opposition, because I could imagine Staley celebrating through gritted teeth.

Both our 2026 recruits are having surgery for the second time.🥹
While not ideal, South Carolina has a great team to help them with their recovery. I recall Amihere opted to enrol early and focus on her rehab after her second ACL injury. Don't know if that's an option in these cases.

Tessa won the McDonald's 3 point shooting contest during that year and has maintained a 40%+ 3 point average during college as well as having earned the title "Tournament Tess" her freshman year. AND she just has a great personality
How would you rank those players now?

College only, so consider injuries however you like.

I don't know how I would rank them but there are only 4-5 players that I would consider as adequate replacements on both sides of the ball if she were to hypothetically transfer today (Watkins, Booker, Williams, Fulwiley). I would also say that Hidalgo is better but they aren't really comparable players at the 3. So I guess I would say she is the 3rd-5th best player at the wing from her class and 4th-6th best all-around guard. That would move her up from like the #25 player to the #6-11 player in her class. She is a first round talent in a stacked class. Any other year and I think she could be a lottery pick candidate but with this class I think she'll be drafted in that 5-10 range because of all the talent.

That was pretty much my thought, and the same players I would put ahead. I guess, for Carolina at least, you'd have to say she is ahead of Fulwiley based on the offseason, but likely not on draft boards.

Love the way the assessment was constructed. 👍

So apparently we're celebrating the youths tomorrow and the game theme is "6...7" 🫣

Here's the list for anyone's perspective:
1. Juju Watkins
2. Mikala Williams-LSU
5. Hannah Hidalgo
6. KK Arnold
9. Zoe Brooks-NC State
11. Taliah Scott-Baylor
12. Madison Booker
13. Malaysia Fulwiler
15. Ashlyn Shade
21. Jada William-Iowa State
23. Sahara William-Oklahoma
24. Kymora Johnson-Virginia
25. Tessa Johnson
I’ve always been impressed by Tessa. I saw a few of her high school games, since she played against Paige a few times, and she was pretty great even in those days. Her quickness wasn’t/still isn’t top notch, but her court savvy is great and this is more important. Even in 8th grade this really stood out about her. She was typically the bucket-getter on those teams.

Recruiting Tessa was a genius move by Dawn, even though she is not exactly the athletic type SC seems to favor. Chloe is another one but in the forward slot. A pair of crafty talented players. In any event, I thought Tessa was a steal at #25. Probably should have been ranked closer to the top 10 at the time. Now in hindsight, it’s easier to see her and Booker somewhere ahead of Brooks. Definitely ahead of Fulwiley and Scott.

That still leaves it a puzzle how she’ll fit into the W. I think she’ll be drafted, but I have no idea how high.

6-4 Alicia Tournebize from France. reportedly will enroll soon and be eligible to play next semester

Are we guessing as out a commitment based on Skim Mulkey’s Dancing Dawn or has their been a birdie sighting?

I don't think we have a birdie sighting. The rumor is starting to go wild, so maybe it has wings?

I did watch a Dawn Staley interview the other day that I need to rewatch because one of the reporters asked about getting a midyear enrollee and she kind of brushed it off. I didn't think much of it but I need to rewatch and overreact to every wrinkle and slight smirk on her face during that interview question and answer. 🤣

Found it @ the 8:41 mark for those that want to read between each facial expression and every little word she says (or doesn't)...

Rumor has it, Alicia Tournebize has committed for 2nd semester, and Skim is also predicting Jerzy to SC.

Skim has posted a South Carolina GIF twice today. Some think there may be two birdies in the nest.

Not sure if the kid has ever visited Columbia, but if I were the Chickens . I'd do my best to keep her away from the BBQ, underwhelming peaches, and the spine crushing bumpy and raggedy highways y'all have down there. Just some friendly advice.
