Gamecocks 2025-2026 Season

This team has a lot of potential but there is a lot of work left to pull that potential out of them. Our defense in particular looks like a work in progress. The trio of the two Johnson and Latson are going to have to be the backbone of this team until the rest catch up. I see the potential. We have all the pieces but our coaching staff is going to earn their paychecks this season.
The first test will be the Southern Cal game… on the road, against a quality team (even without JuJu). Duke just got a wake-up call, and we get them late November. At some point, we can expect to get punched in the mouth… how we react will say a lot about our potential. All that said, we gotta stay healthy.

15,601 attendance. Not bad for a "warm up game."

But, I don't think this year will surpass 2024-2025 totals or average. Not enough bigtime home opponents to stir up the full 18,000

Just watching the game you could see some poor close outs and odd looking switches so not surprised Dawn mentioned that.

Did seem that SCar was not fully engaged in second half. Certainly cooled off on three point attempts.

Getting Okot squared away would seem the highest priority for this team.

Edwards was some missed bunnies away from a bigger night.

Latson's transition looks pretty effortless in 1 game. Don't force a thing. Refreshing to go a whole game without stupid shots or instagram worth turnovers.

Very nice game by Raven.

Very nice game by Tessa.

Makeer looks to have added some good weight and looks a little less coltish than her Team Canada appearances. Remain very high on her all around game and have raised my estimation of her offense. Still, working on not forcing things is something she will need to do, but I think she's going to come around there in a way that Amihere never really did.

Enjoyed Ayla.

That's my hot takes.

This is my hope for her as well.

I would be surprised if there were more than 600 walk-up or single-game tickets sold. The upper deck baselines and corners, where most single-game tickets are, were relatively empty. I haven't seen an official season ticket count, but it seems the lowest reported attendance (which includes season tickets whether the ticket-holder attends or not) at home games this season will be around 15,000. Several thousand season ticket holders came disguised as empty seats last night. Still a great crowd, but I marvel at the number of folks who pay top dollar (plus Gamecock Club membership fees) for lower bowl tickets, then don't show up for the home opener. They missed a fun atmosphere, if not a close game.

People buy season tickets to see UConn not Grand Canyon. Oops

Really, our home schedule

Interesting that the UConn game went from home and home to basically an. Off campus home and home brokered by third parties.

Maybe they can make more money off of the special event model than home and home. Let's hope so.

Well, that went about as expected. Bad way to treat your former coaches. Joyce was nearly perfect against Green Bay. Both freshmen played well. Thought our defense assignments playing improved from the Grand Canyon game. Many fewer blown assignments. Latson seemed happy to put forth effort on defense.

Next up? Clempsun! Seems like they have a good coach. The cobbled together portal team last year seemed to battle for him and he has an excellent freshman class coming in next year . But our talent is just too much for them at this time.

Keep working gamecocks.

(Clempsun had a good opening crowd of almost 6,000. We had almost 16,000 for z green bay . Our game would probably seek out on a weekend. It might on a weeknight anyway)

It will be very interesting to see what this offense looks like against Duke. You can tell it's still coming together.

If we get the best offensive version of Raven Johnson it's going to be good gravy.

Defense still looks a little sloppy too but better than last game.

If injuries don't wreck us and we get steady improvement we might give UConn a game.

FINALLY! After 18 years, a Cali HS recruit is coming to Columbia. The curse is broken. Hopefully one more is on the way. Kaeli and Jerzy seemed to enjoy hanging together during the Anderson exhibition so perhaps she might follow. 🤞🏼

When did we play Green Bay?

Interesting scheduling news for the next three years:

Those milaysia fulwileys never invite Duke to Charlotte. Keep inviting these trash arse NC schools. Might have to boycott the city of Charlotte. Now I'm in a bad mood

Tired of these expletive birdies flying around 🤬

Just past 6am and I'm already mad at the world

Tough match up for our ladies. Took a while to figure out their signature play. They’d set up a seal here and a seal there and drive the ball right up the alley way. Once USC got it going though, all Green Bay could do to stop us out there was grab. Grab, grab, grab. Nobody guarding!

BTW, John Facenda was great on the television call. Man has the voice of God.

We played Bowling Green, not Green Bay.

So Cal will be an interesting gauge for us.

It's hard to get up for Clemson but there were a few concerning things in there even for a game that was never close.

What the heck happened with Maddy? That came out of the blue.

As for the Clemson game, not much scoring which created the illusion of a close game. Where did all the shooters go?

I liked the look of Okot. She’s as big as advertised. Not super quick with her feet, but she has good hands and seems really solid. I think the lack of quickness won’t matter if Joyce takes care of that for her. Then she can just be the rock, so to speak, and Dawn has needed a rock recently.

At first I thought the score indicated an off night and while we didn't shoot the ball as well as the previous games and missed some bunnies, we were not horrible. 45% overall, 56% from 3. It all clicked when coach mentioned that Clemson was slowing the game down and limiting possessions. We normally have 70-80 possessions a game and for this game we had 58. For a normal paced game using the above FG%, we would have scored about 80 points.

A couple of thoughts:
  • We need more from Dauda and Tac. Given the number of available players on our roster, everyone has to contribute. We’re getting more production from the two freshmen.
  • I was surprised by the news about Maddie. The players know the expectations, and Dawn and her staff vet both the recruits and their families thoroughly, to avoid issues later. My guess is that a teenager made a bad decision, like teenagers are prone to do occasionally, and is paying the consequences. She’ll sit, and learn, and at the correct time she’ll return.
