Interesting story... Did Marvin Kloss keep USF's Weist from getting UConn job?

>>The Temple victory began the season-ending streak that included home victories against Rutgers and Memphis. Some suggested Weist's ability to keep the Huskies motivated following an 0-9 start should've been enough to earn him the job permanently.

He disagrees. "Going in, the (UConn) AD, Warde (Manuel) had told me, 'Just win,'" Weist said. "He didn't say (how many) but I knew that we had to win six, put together a winning streak or whatever it was, and show that program that we could win on a consistent basis.

"If I would've won earlier, if we could've beaten South Florida in that first game and kept winning, then I would've said, 'Hey, you know what, I earned this job.' But I didn't. ... I think our staff and that team takes away a lot of pride in how we finished. But I can't sit here and say, 'Boy, I earned that job.'"<<

I didn't know that last year's win over us gave USF their 100th FBS win. It made me curious about UConn's 100th; we're on pace to achieve that next season. I was also surprised to see that our FBS record has never dropped below .500 (currently 89-89):

Year W | L | Win Pct Cum - W | Cum - L | Win Pct
2002 6 - 6 0.500 6 - 6 0.500
2003 9 - 3 0.750 15 - 9 0.625
2004 8 - 4 0.667 23 - 13 0.639
2005 5 - 6 0.455 28 - 19 0.596
2006 4 - 8 0.333 32 - 27 0.542
2007 9 - 4 0.692 41 - 31 0.569
2008 8 - 5 0.615 49 - 36 0.576
2009 8 - 5 0.615 57 - 41 0.582
2010 8 - 5 0.615 65 - 46 0.586
2011 5 - 7 0.417 70 - 53 0.569
2012 5 - 7 0.417 75 - 60 0.556
2013 3 - 9 0.250 78 - 69 0.531
2014 2 - 10 0.167 80 - 79 0.503
2015 6 - 7 0.462 86 - 86 0.500
2016 3 - 3 0.500 89 - 89 0.500

This has been the second toughest game on our schedule from the moment it was announced, and we would need an awful lot of things to go right to get a win -- and I still don't think we've recovered to anywhere near our 2007--2010 levels yet -- but in one sense this is reminiscent of that great Thursday night home game to WVu in '10. While we're 1-2 in the conference, both losses have been to good teams on the road, and if we were to win this we will be talking Sunday morning about winning the AAC East and going to the championship game. Because a win makes us 2-2, all 4 remaining games are absolutely winnable, 3 of the 4 are at home, and if we win out we would be undefeated in the East, thus win any tiebreaker and need only to have USF and UCF lose once more to win the east.

Yes, that's a lot of "ifs," and I think USF is both substantially better than us and at home, but I just thought in all the crap that the bulletin boards have become it wouldn't be terrible to point out that THIS IS ACTUALLY A BIG FRIGGIN GAME.
