UMass gave up 385 rushing yards and 304 passing yards their last game to mighty LT. Their defense might be worst than UConn's 2018 defense. Mensah/Thompkins is going to tear it up. Zergiotis should be able to connect on a few bombs. Randy breaks the FBS losing streak. Good vibes.

>>The Minutemen head into Saturday’s game with question marks like the aforementioned quarterback conundrum and issues with injured players missing time, but they should be somewhat healthier before playing UConn on Saturday. Cornerback Donte Lindsey, linebacker Tyris Lebeau and defensive tackle Wilson Frederic are all reportedly ready to return to the lineup for UMass, giving the Minutemen much-needed boosts in depth at all three levels of the defense.

The biggest question however is who starts at quarterback. Despite the fact that head coach Walt Bell listed all three QBs with an -OR- designation on this week’s two-deep, odds are it won’t be Michael Curtis starting after back to back tough outings in UMass’ last two losses. Andrew Brito is cleared from concussion protocol but has not seen game action in several weeks and would likely be in for more of a backup role than anything else. That leaves Randall West, the QB Bell praised after the LA Tech game, as the most likely starter for the Minutemen for UConn. West has his limitations at QB but the thing he has done better than his counterparts this year is take care of the football. As we said that will play a major role in who wins this year’s edition of The U Game on Saturday.<<

Putterman: UConn football favored against UMass in matchup of bottom-ranked programs

Regardless of who starts under center, the Minutemen will likely rely on running back Bilal Ally, who has averaged 5.5 yards per carry this year and scored a team-high four touchdown.

Like UMass, UConn will be without key players Saturday, particularly on defense. Linebacker Ryan Gilmartin (high-ankle sprain) and safety Diamond Harrell (pulled hamstring) will both sit with injures, while defensive tackle Travis Jones will miss the first half thanks to a targeting call late in last week’s game. UConn has not provided updates on cornerback Tahj Herring-Wilson, linebacker D.J. Morgan and tight end Donovan Williams, all of whom have been hurt in recent weeks.<<

Agreed, but that's not Randy's style. In winnable games he tends to go conservative.
