I expect a fairly vanilla game plan on offense. The coaches know what the offense can do.

On defense the coaches are still learning about the guys. I think we will use a lot of players as the coaches continue to figure out who can do what. They will want to see if we can generate a pass rush with four and who steps up with the lights on.

Most interesting to me is the number of P-4 transfers who apparently will be sitting behind players whom we recruited directly out of high school. That's not a bad thing, but an interesting one.

Just to add some meat to the bones there, when they were announced I thought it almost certain that Ty Chan from Notre Dame would start on the OL, Sione Moa from BYU at LB and Ty Mills from Penn State at Safety. One can only hope that they're not starting because of better than expected play from returning players rather than their failure to be as good as we hoped. If it's the former, that's a great sign.

Remember, last year, Jayden McDonald and TJ Sheffield weren't listed as starters the first game against Maryland and they ended up with the most tackles and most receptions on the team.

Why is the depth chart a picture of a handout? I know it was the same last year, it just seems like they would something more official looking?

Seriously? Because reporters are taking a photo of what they are handed with their cell phones prior to when UConn posts it online for the general public and they could print it out on paper and have it look nice.

Joe Fagnano, returning for his seventh year of college football, was made available to speak with the media before practices began, signaling his role as the team’s leader. He then took consistent reps with the first team throughout August. Nothing is promised in Storrs, but the clear favorite to win the job held up his end of the bargain and will be behind center when the team opens its season against Central Connecticut at Rentschler Field Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be the quarterback for this offense, for this team,” Fagnano said. “A lot of guys counting on me and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I knew coming back that we were going to have a good team, a lot of good players and that’s exciting.” <-

-> Bell said that Fagnano is so comfortable that he is even heeding the encouragement of his teammates and talking a little bit of trash to the defense. As he finally comes out of his shell, it makes the offensive players want to play for him even more.

“Joe has been great,” Bell said. “He has been in college for a while. He knows the offense. He knows where the ball is supposed to go and where it is not supposed to go. He knows how to make reads. He knows how to get guys in position to make plays. Even when you might be covered, he knows where to put the ball where only you can get it.

“Having him back at the helm of the offense is going to be big for us.” <-

I expect to see a lot of different players get some action this week, maybe even some young guys who we still plan on redshirting. Games against Syracuse and Delaware will be more telling for where things stand in terms of our depth and rotation

I agree with this. I wonder if they want to give some guys extended looks against live competition to see what they can do.
