Air Force's schedule. I agree we can't take them lightly. Let's get that 8th win!

Air Force is another bad matchup for the UConn defense. As Diaz pointed out... if Duke could've gotten the last stop he felt good about running the ball to wrap it up (I was very nervous about the fact that UConn didn't run more time off the clock before the Bell TD, if only to eliminate the threat of a run).

If UConn had missed a chippie FG. If the refs didn't have some crappy calls...............

but i want to.... i hate the 3-3-5 so much lol
In Mora I trust.... Do note there is often four or five on the line with one dropping into coverage and another blitzing.
Not always 3-3-5............
Parhams play as a line backer taking down the Dukie qb and striping the ball is all I need to see in the improvement in our D.
With so many transfers these days it takes time to gel. Our guys are doing a hell of a good job on both sides of the ball.
Shout out to the O line that is giving Joe time to read and react.

Air Force is averaging only 23 points a game over their past 3 games. Keep em under 28 and we win fairly comfortably.

We tied Syracuse at 20 and Rice at 23. Neither loss was specifically on the defense. Delaware was.
I thought UConn’s defense against Syracuse was awesome, until the last 3 possessions or so. It seemed like Syracuse flipped a switch or something and suddenly couldn’t be stopped.
Their QB had some decent yardage in the air but they weren’t getting into endzone. And they had some crazy hits on the QB too. On one, I was shocked the kid stayed in the game.
If we played that game today, I think we win by 2 touchdowns.

Lots of film study will have gone into this Defensive game plan. Run blitz's have to be accurately called in order for us to survive. Who will likely be coming from the back 5 to attack the line of scrimmage?
Run blitzes will be the key IMO, along with tackling. Get some TFLs and maybe force a couple of turnovers. Can't lay back and let them get comfortable running their system at us all day. We will never get off the field. We must be aggressive and disrupt the option. They will burn us here and there, but we will stop them a good percentage of the time, IF we tackle well.

To win this game we need lean into the athletic advantage we have on them.

On Defense - Trust guys like Chadwick and Brinson 1 on 1 in coverage to allow for more bodies in the box.

On Offense - Guys like Bell, Edwards & Vereen are better athletes than anyone they have trying to stop them. Emphasize that and don’t try and out tough, physical or discipline them.

I think this is 100 per cent correct. I remember watching a Tulane team a number years ago effectively stopping the Army run game by shooting the gaps with their linebackers and safeties on every down.

In tight games like that, more talented teams resort to bolder plays that can only be successful with said talent. Angeli is a great QB, you don’t want to engage to the point where he’s gun-slinging to win the game. WRs can make crazy catches under those circumstances like Bell did against Duke.

Delaware knew every hole our defense had, because they saw it daily. If everyone seems to think our 3-3-5 will be gashed by , why not toss a few wrinkles into it? They can't rely on outscoring anyone if they never see the ball.

Sounds like a no go for Saturday.

He left it up in the air. Was asked about the injured players from the game and started talking about Mel Brown being back and Ty Bowman practicing. Said the guys who left the game and didn’t come back that we are in really good shape. Also said what looked during the game with guys leaving and not coming back, we are in really good shape. Great job by the players recovering and the medical staff getting everyone back to where they can practice and participate in this weekends game. Lee’s injury wasn’t as bad as it looked. There’s hope for him to play this weekends game but he cannot guarantee it. Same thing with Juice. Both working the process to get back on the field for Saturday.

It’s clear Mora thinks the team has earned the crowd support going forward.

This will not be an easy game for UConn. Air Force has the #2 rushing offense and are ranked #5 in time of possession, #13 in 3rd down conversions, and #7 in 4th down conversion. In other words, you have to make plays to stop drives or they will march down the field and score. They average 33.1 points per game.

Fortunately, their defense is not good and are ranked #103 against the run, #134 against the pass, and #133 in total yards allowed per game. Opponents average 33 points per game.
I've been thinking along the same lines for awhile now. Air Force will run the ball on us, but we will throw on them. I'm confident this will be at least a 40 and possibly a 50 point game for us. But the defense may get torn up similarly to Delaware. Normally putting up that many points I am basically certain we will win, but this is the rare exception.

I'm still confident we will win if we are healthy. Rice plays a similar style offense and our defense wasn't terrible on the road against them. With the way we are throwing the ball, and their inability to defend the pass, I expect a lot of big plays through the air on Saturday. Even if Air Force is scoring and controlling the clock, the big plays will be a way to counter and offset that. I also think this is the first game Cam goes for 100+ rushing yards in what, a month+? That should help open things up for the passing game even more.

Just need to make sure all of our guys that had a helmet put into their knee against Duke a few days ago can actually walk come game time. Thankfully we do have depth at TE if both Vereen and Honig are hobbled.
